Re: [PSD] Dobermann [In reply to] Can't Post

Just wondering, abt the King Shepherd..can they really be considered as a variety of the GSD?

You'r refering to the one developed in the USA not too long ago right? the one with some malamute in its blood to increase it's size?Crazy

They do look good..but the ones I've seen hv a different look..not sure how to explain..but they don't hv that sharp GSD look.

Perhaps you could do more research on the breed.

Amanda this is very good. You should prepare yourself to know more about the dog to really appreciate the real dog. I will assist all that I can if you ever needed any reference. Add me on your messenger list if you needed to. You are welcome.

Let just say that it is not GSD for starters.

see this

The King Shepherd's origin comes from several different breeds. Although there are some differences in opinion regarding the exact breed make-up, it is generally believed that the King's breed make-up includes German Shepherds of American lines, crossed with Malamutes and/or a Flock Guardian breed (i.e Great Pyrenees), which were then bred back to German Shepherds of European descent.

Maybe this may help.

Anyway, dont expect any performance from this dog. It is all look and nothing else. Color schemes wise they follow after GSD and certainly due to that GSD is one breed that features a large gene dominance here.

Anyway, I'm not the best person to talk about this as I do not go in depth into this type of breed. Just for information sake.Smile

aah...ok. Thanks for clearing out my doubts.Smile

just got a little confused with this comment "The overly big ones mentioned here is Shiloh or King shepherd".

Also, abt the running or endurance test, what's the distance? Is it 15 km?Crazy

Kinki, my beloved mongrel

Some will tell you yes but I will tell you no at least from my sports point of view that if a dog has HD his career just ended. Operations can be done or a lower degree of severeness can be lessen by not working the dog. But all those will not make a HD dog suddenly turning into a non HD dog. This IMHO. So it is better to start from the right dog and right upbringing for this than face consequences later.

Amanda,

That is why it pays in the long run to get the dog from reliable source. Believe me, as a dogowner myself, I would not want to bring a puppy up and put so much attention and care into creating a worthwhile relationship with the dog and finding out in two years time he has HD. That simply isnt so great...Mad

For your easy comprehension, say if the generations of 32 ancestors of the dog without any generations of HD is not going to give you any high chance of HD in the puppies. that kind of breeder is what you have to search for........the responsibility in watching for the genetics developments in his breeding program.

The rest 50% of chance if for you to bring it up not overweight and not overworked while too little.Smile

Hi Amanda,

R u into working GSD as well Wink? I think for this kind of question is best for you to mail PSD personally rather than asked here. Again this will against the forum rules and regulation of someone being posting/replying any post that trying to promote their puppies or any other commercial product that is not sanction by Khoo.

This is my first post and I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly. I have a question that someone unbiased about 2 particular breeds might be able to answer.... Where did the King Shepherd originate and when? How are they different from the Shiloh Shephered? Did the King Shepherd begin with a Shiloh and bred to the great pyrenese then back to the GSD?

Hi, I shall take that as a compliment, why you may ask, simply because that is how it should be, like Rotties, Boxers, GSD. Do rest assure if you know of their parentage you will know it is just looks. Tara, that is her name comes from parents that are show winners so they get to be touch and whatever by judges, I am sure you know so it is fine. She is only 10 months old and she can do distant work and heel leash off, then again it takes about three years before they are really steady. I have a Weimeraner too now that one is fine off leash, she is three too but younger, she is a nightmare even during daytime.
