Wondering about my doggie's skin. Can't Post

Hi guys, need some feedback and help. My Shih Tzu/Maltese was brought back from Australia 3 years ago. Since then,
1.) She has been having itchy skin ever since.
2.) Her skin developed patches of pigmentation.
3.) Fur coloring comes on and off, sometimes her fur is all white, then patches of light tan color fur grows back, then white again.
4.) Back half of her body's fur has become curly.

She couldn't get use to the weather here so her fur is now always short. I have been told it is a reaction to the weather here. I have done things like change her shampoo, her diet, applied lotion, antiseptic tea tree oil lotion among other things for her itchy skin, only very slight improvements. Can weather really do all that or am I missing something? Anything else I can do? She is 5 yrs old now. Crazy

Hahah if you dog still facing the same problem, a switch to lamb & rice based kibble will be a good start, if ur dog still can't along with this, then go for a special formulated kibble for sensitive skin.

Supplements like Nupro and other will definately help.Wink

I am refering to the color of the fur. Yea, the pigmentation....I think. When Babe was a puppy, she was white, black and brown color. When she came back to Malaysia, she became white. 1 year ago, her fur start to alternate b/w white and white with light tan patches every few months.

hello torochan, I have tried quite a few brands. Mostly, I use those with tar content or those for sensitive skin. Now I am using one from Au that uses aromatherapy oil of lavendar and rosemary. It seems to help a little better than the rest.

Lamb & Rice is not the solution to skin problems, that's my opinion, if it is, there will be no vet, everyone would just start change thier dog's food to lamb & rice once they've spotted skin problem.

Why not take your dog to the vet and let them advise you better on what solution is the best? Maybe selected medicated shampoo or medicine is the actual cure to this problem. If its serious and been going on for quite sometime, please get second vet opinions on this.

Thanks guys, think you r right cause I don't see much results on everything I've done so far. Babe's due to see a vet anyhow, so I'll be getting the vet's opinion. For 3 yrs, the vets I've seen here says everything is ok. Unsure I want another vet's opinion on it. Wanna change my vet. Any good ones in PJ, reasonable in price? Heard in the forum there are a few good ones in Subang.

up to certain degree i do agree wiht u BUT

bear in mind tha lamb & rice contain the least % of protein if compare to normal chicken based kibble. Some dogs simply can't get along with the high protein level and the extra protein will caused red spot.

hello

you can buy it off online shop. the website to visit is look under medication. i think they are having a promotion on their 4oz spray bottle. do check with them.

let me cut and paste some of the write up here.

For topical use on: Cuts, Scrapes, Open Sores, Ear Infections, Fungus, Itchy Areas, Acne, Hot Spots, Abscesses, Mosquito Bites, Poison Ivy, Burns, Parasitic Infections (viral & fungal), Blood Parasites, Ringworm, Dermatitis, Infections, Virus Warts, Inflammations, Virus (all forms), Yeast Infections, Seborrhea, Scaling or Dandruff, Skin Irritations Caused From Allergic Reactions and 650 OTHER KNOWN DISEASE ORGANISMS!!! INGREDIENTS: 100% Distilled Structured Water With .999 PURE SILVER Colloidal Silver at 30ppm.

A TIME PROVEN-REMEDY
Peace & Kindness is a completely natural antibiotic that is just as effective as it's synthetic counterparts BUT CAUSES NO SIDE EFFECTS OF ANY KIND. Unknown to most of us, the medical community has been aware of the anti-microbial power of SILVER since the early 1900's. As a matter of fact SILVER has been medically proven to be one of the best infection fighting agents ever discovered.

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE
Medical research over the last century has revealed that SILVER has wide-ranging and powerful medical applications. Colloidal Silver has been successfully tested at the UCLA Medical Labs where it killed every virus on which it was tested.

Chris Systems Peace & Kindness is 30ppm (parts per million) of PURE SILVER with ALOE VERA, the most effective and necessary concentration needed for external uses to absorb into the tissue and can actually destroy MORE THAN 650 KNOWN DISEASE ORGANISMS!!!

PEACE & KINDNESS™ For Skin Problems
The skin protects the organs and tissues within the body from invasions of foreign substances. Since the skin is the guard at the door, it is always being attacked and we are always fighting skin problems. It is essential to have healthy skin for the overall well being of internal health. Peace & Kindness ingredients works as a catalyst, disabling the enzyme that all one-celled bacteria, fungi and viruses use for their oxygen metabolism. In short, it suffocates the bad guys, but leaves unharmed the essential "friendly" bacteria.

PEACE & KINDNESS™ Is A Natural Alternative To Antibiotics
Peace & Kindness is an amazing natural alternative to antibiotics and steroids. There is no disease causing bacteria that can live in the presence of Peace & Kindness ingredients. Many strains of pathogenic microbes-viruses, fungi, bacteria or any other single-celled pathogen-resistant to other antibiotics are killed on contact and are unable to mutate without harming tissue-cell enzymes or friendly bacteria.

PEACE & KINDNESS™ Is Non Toxic
Peace & Kindness is absolutely non-toxic to dogs, cats, horses as well as humans, can virtually even be used on viral warts around the mouth. Completely tasteless, odorless, non-stinging and non-burning to sensitive tissues including the eyes. A safe all around germ-fighter, safe to use even on puppies and kittens. No recorded reaction with other medications, and the body does not develop any dependencies or tolerances, excellent for veterinary uses.

PEACE & KINDNESS™ Stimulates Healing
Peace & Kindness profoundly stimulates healing in skin and other soft tissues in a way unlike any known other natural process, and it promotes new cell growth. Peace & Kindness contains only natural ingredients that help the body fight infections just like synthetic antibiotics, but without their damaging side effects. Peace & Kindness has a pH of approximately 6.5 and will not discolor coat color or leave behind any residue. Available in Spray for topical use on : Cuts, Scrapes, Open Sores, Ear Infections, Fungus, Itchy Areas, Acne, Hot Spots, Abscesses, Mosquito Bites, Poison Ivy, Burns, Parasitic Infections (viral & fungal), Blood Parasites, Ringworm, Dermatitis, Infections, Virus Warts, Inflammations, Virus (all forms), Yeast Infections, Seborrhea, Scaling or Dandruff, Skin Irritations Caused From Allergic Reactions and 650 OTHER KNOWN DISEASE ORGANISMS!!!

does that help?

Thanks for your reply ...Smile

I see ... P*ACE & K*NDNESS contains "colloidal silver" ...

I'm fairly open to new methods and suggestions ... and quite ready to listen/try anything that is good for our doggies ...

To avoid any misunderstanding ... I'm not knocking P*ace & K*ndness ... Smile ... I am actually very curious but would certainly like to hear/learn more before using ...

To my knowledge, the general principle underlying "colloidal silver" therapy - is that colloidal silver is supposed to be (non evasive & non allergenic) very effective in deactivating micro-organisms that are deterimental to people & dogs. Application of colloidal silver in the correct concentration is supposed to cure various skin conditions and other ailments ... hence the use of the expression "miracle cure".

Little question: Have you personally used P*ACE & K*NDNESS on your dog/s? ...

And if so, would you share the results, your views and comments with us. What was the ailment cured? How long was the treatment duration and intensity of treatment?

Also ... what do you think about what these websites have to say, about "colloidal silver" treatments?:

http://together.net/~rjstan/rose1.html

I would really like to hear more ... thanks.

Hi Boon, I totally agree with you. To my experience, most vets in Malaysia are all out for money with no consideration for your pet. They give vague answers and half hearted checks while promoting products which really p*ss me off. After a few of such experience + what little money I have down the drain, I sort of gave up on them.
This time round, I went to one recommended by some of the forummers here. I must say, there should be more of the likes of him here. Laugh
He spent a lot of time with me answering all sorts of questions and concerns I have. Including some of the issues being discussed here in the forum.
Good news is, my Babe is healthy. Skin problem is probably exagerated by the amt of dust being kicked up in my house now as we are moving within the month. He gave me a few options and suggestions to try. Sly Cheers!

Hi guys, need some feedback and help. My Shih Tzu/Maltese was brought back from Australia 3 years ago. Since then,
1.) She has been having itchy skin ever since.
2.) Her skin developed patches of pigmentation.

This is just my personal opinion, you can try to start feeding raw food to your doggie. That's what I'm doing now. I feed raw chicken wings to my 2 dogs.

One of them use to have skin problems like hot spots here and there while the other has bad breath. Now, no more.

To me, you are able to monitor their changes and also you are 100% guarantee that the food they are eating is not of by-products. They are fresh chicken meat!!! Cool We are not sure what ingredients are use to manufacture those dry and canned food. That's why I'm very, very particular on this. Let me know if you intend to switch to raw food, I'll teach you how to introduce to yr doggie.

3.) Fur coloring comes on and off, sometimes her fur is all white, then patches of light tan color fur grows back, then white again.

Does it being exposed to the sun? Sunlight can cause the fur to turn brownish. Frown

4.) Back half of her body's fur has become curly.

Are you using yr hand to stroke it every now and then? The curly fur might be caused by static charges generated from your hand to the fur, that's why it curls. Unsure

Crazy

It's better to give her fragrance free shampoo. Do not bath her too often. Once a week is good enough. Do not attempt to try too many different kinds of products as you are wasting yr money and it can further irritate the skin, causing it to have much more problems.

Best thing is to bring it to a reliable vet. Take care. Sly

Hi there~

How's your shih tsu? getting any improvement on the skin's condition?

Also wanna to point out a fact: that not all vets are specialise in treating DOGS. There's still plenty of them in the field of poultry, but they open Klinik Haiwan and claimed themselves VET, they treat monkeys, birds, cows, cats..etc too. To certain extent, not every VETS KNOW about dogs.

Hi Mack, Thanks for asking. Smile

Babe's skin have improved. Still itchy, but not as bad. Used to shower her once a week, now if she don't smell, I drag it longer to 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Doc says she is very healthy, fur and skin also healthy. But very naughty. I realized that she's been digging the bin for tasty snacks....like fruit cores and peels. Crazy sigh... and the best part is, she hides them under her pillow in her crate so that no one knows. Gek Sei...Unimpressed dunno whether to laugh or scold when I found it while cleaning her place up. She buat buat tak tau somemore. Now I am taking measures.

Her eyes though are smelly and tearing a lot. There is always debris in her eyes. Doc says good that I cut her face hair short and away from the eyes. So using eye drops everyday and wipe. Improved a little. She likes to rub her face in any convenient place she can find. Most of the time, that's my clothes and the sofa. Crazy

I think once we finish moving house, her condition should improve more. A lot of dust being kicked up now.

U may try to feed Babe raw eggs with some crushed shells to her normal meal, say twice a week is enough, it's good for skin & coat. if u dun dare go RAW, then half boiled or boiled is fine too. Just make sure U don't only feed her only the WHITE. a big NO NO.
