At first I own only 1 female Maltese .. then she gave birth twice ... 2 on the first birth ..., 2 on the second birth. But the second baby on the 2nd birth, died in her stomach as it was too huge.. Can't turn, can't move, can't come out... Sad story, la ..

My maltese eats particularly any food ... but they don't seem to like hard treats. You have to keep wiping their eye area so that there's no tears and the hair won't turn brown. Comb her hair everyday, lor ... but if it's too troublesome, my as well cut it short. That's what i did with all of them.

You've filled de list correctly. It's alright for you not to make it for the gathering. We would understand cos you're from the States. It's just that not people do have maltese and I just want to get a rough list of how many maltese owners we have here...

Oscar may look cute but wait till you see the way he eats his dinner. It's like i'm forcing him to eat the yuckiest thing in the world! Tried so many types of dog food...still, no luck on him eating properly.

Hiley looks cute too! Does she have any problem eating? She's "Sam Seng" ? Hahaha! i thought only male dogs are Sam Seng.

hiley's the most sam seng dog among my family dogs! even can play with my rotts and gsd�luckily they treat her like a baby or else first part to will be her pig tail.

hiley as she knows she's the princess at my home�and she knows her rights and tantrum too. she loves to bargain on good meal Mad

! she'll demand for chicken, carrot and bread crumbs lah�am feeding her ekanuba lamb and rice but pa pai also cos if don't meet her request she'll just leave the food and run far far away lah�like am her slave.

overall, she's one hell of a girl! also tell her that she's one of luckiest doggy�got many stray around and abused ones that has no food to eat�how i wish she can talk back Smile

Hi, I'm Catheryn, a new parent to a lovely Maltese fur baby... totally lovable and extremely adorable, except when she chomps on my toes in the morning... She's in the teething period. Crazy

Unfortunately, I've only gotten her for 3 weeks before I had to leave for Seattle for 3 weeks. I'm in Seattle now, posting the latest picture I've gotten of her, taken 2 days ago. Am looking forward to seeing my baby when I fly home this weekend.

Hi Gina,

My Chloe is a greedy munchkin... She licks her food bowl clean in like under 2 minutes... I feed her Purina Pro Plan, puppy formula. She seems to love her food, so maybe you'd like to try that.

However, I'm planning to switch her to Eukanuba or IAMS once she finishes this package. I read that these 2 brands are recommended for Maltese. Do note that some brands contain colouring which would stain a Maltese's fur... so, watch what you feed your baby... Smile

Hi Swee Eng,

I was wondering if you could advise more on tear staining. This is a common problem amongst Maltese and I'd like your advise on how to tackle the problem...

Other than wiping the eye area everyday, what do you do to minimise the tear stains? Are those tear stain solutions available in pet stores such as "Crystal Eye" effective? Or do you have your own formula for removing tear stains?

I'm not quite sure how to cure those tear stains besides wiping them almost everyday. I do not purchase any product for their tear stain. It's just that when they grow elder, they cry less, their tear stains just goes off like that... I think the best solution might be... making them happy.. Smile

Cos my sister's Maltese use to have very white fur until he (the dog) became sensitive and keep on crying then the whole face became brown...

Will take your advise and try to keep my baby happy... Already spoilt her with lots of chew toys. Just bought her 3 Kongs as well from US, a chew toy that I couldn't find in KL/PJ/Subang, not for small breeds anyway. These pet stores all stock Kongs for large breeds, grande sized... nothing for toy breeds Unsure

I'm not sure if you'll benefit anything from getting those "kong" cos my maltese doesn't seem to like them at all. Moreover the "kong" the you buy is for bigger dogs. My male maltese likes to play ball with me wherelse my female maltese just likes to stay beside me. She doesn't want anything except me stroking her. She'll follow me wherever I go and stick by me like glue...

Thanks for the note... I couldn't get any Kongs for toy breeds back in KL/PJ. I tried all the pet stores I could find. You're right, they're all for large breeds, grande sized!

To get the Kong specifically for toy breeds, I checked the internet and I found them in Petco here in Seattle. So, Chloe's all set with her new chew toys for Christmas. They have different strengths for different age groups: puppy and adult. So I bought her 3! Enough to last a while until my next trip overseas.

I wanted to get the "puppy Kong" specifically to help sooth Chloe's teething gums, so she'll stop chomping on my toes. Wink

Right now, Chloe only has one Kong ball which she loves to play with coz I stuff treats in it (with levels of difficulty), and she amuses herself trying to get the treat out of the ball. I also smear peanut butter inside the hollow of the Kong ball so she tries her darnest to get to the peanut butter. The rest of her toys are the furry soft toys.

You're lucky you've got a docile female Maltese. Smile

Mine is just really hyperactive at the moment... maybe because she's still in the puppy playful stage. So, she's been nicknamed Gojira (Godzilla) as well as Little Diablo (Little Devil)! Hopefully, she'll calm down as she grows older...

I'd love to meet you and your fur kids... I'm sure I could learn lots from a Maltese veteran like you Blush

Thanks for the advice on Dog food. I didn't know that colouring in dog food would make a different. I better watch out. Right now, Oscar seems to be fine eating Science Diet for puppies. I guess it depends on his mood nowadays, somedays it's so easy to get him to eat. On other days, he looks at his food as if it's alive and will eat him instead.

Lots of sloppy kisses from Oscar to your Chloe! And a big hug frm me to Chloe!

So sorry about the late reply... been trying to catch up on sleep as well as catching up with work in KL.

Thank you so much for the compliments on Chloe.. yes, she's got a cutie face.. She grew quite a fair bit of hair while I was away in the States for 3 weeks.

I haven't started thinking about her husband yet, coz to me, she's still my little baby... only 4 months old. Ahahaha!!! But, I'll definitely keep Oscar in mind for a potential hubby. Sly

I've switched Chloe's food to Eukanuba, Puppy formula for Small Breeds. She takes a longer time to eat because she's chewing the kibble now, instead of gobbling them down in seconds.. But, she seems to be perpetually greedy for food. She'll do anything for food/treats...

Took her to the vet last Sat, and the vet cautioned me that Maltese tend to get fat very easily. Wink

Hi Swee Eng, all Maltese owners out there...

I'm having a little of difficulty grooming my Chloe... She gets matted hair in places, so I'll be using a detangling solution to try and smooth those out.

I've been doing her ears and nails myself, but would certainly like to know of any professional groomers out there who're experienced with Maltese. Any recommendations?

Would really appreciate the recommendations and feedback (either via email or personal postings).

Hi Catheryn,

Before calling it a quit, maybe u should comb your doggie's hair slowly and bit by bit to untangle the whole thing. If it's really very serious, maybe u can use a scissors but not cut it jes like that... cut it following the way the growth of the hair... and make sure you don't accidently cut your doggie's skin.

Once it's done, make sure next time u either keep your doggie's hair short or do comb it everyday... to avoid it happening again...

A vet once told me to use warm (not too warm lah!) water to wipe the fur (affected area). But you have to do it very often (daily) because they tear a lot. The other one is the mouth area. That's very hard to keep white.

<--My Snowy was white as snow when she was a pup. That's why I called her Snowy (Siew Pak). After 7 years, I gave up on wiping her with warm water. No matter how persistent I am, the brown stills develop over time. I guess the colouring gives her some character. The mature look. I still like her pure white. YOu just have to love them as they are!

Thanks for all your advice... It's great to have an experienced hand's point of view...

I've got it sorted out now... While at the K-9 event, Chloe got a free grooming and my friend got the recommended conditioner. That has certainly helped, and now Chloe's fur is really soft and tangle-free... Smile

Hi people, I'm a new here and I own a Maltese puppy named Kimmi *points to display picture*. Blush

Problem is, she's a little rascal, chewing on everything she can get her tiny paws on!!! Crazy

Including MY POOR TOES!

I've never experienced teething with such a vengence! Is this normal? Cos I never had this problem with my other dog... Pls help...

Hi to all maltese owners out there...

Nice meeting all of you here...i have a cute little maltese, her name is Baby, gosh she really likes to stick with me wherever i go...even to the toilet Laugh

. She have been a very playful and happy furball till last night...i found lots and i really mean a lot of fleas on her back, ears, head, armpit and even her tail, i was soooooo worried until i couldn't sleep Unsure

. I have just got her a shampoo for fleas and i hope it works...will clean her up later in the afternoon. Well, i guess i'll have to wait for the afternoon and see if those bugs would leave my sweetheart in peace if not iwill have to bring her to a vet. I am also afraid that my condo might be manifested with the bugs. Gosh...the most annoying bug in this planet Mad

. By the way, i'm new here and i hope to have more friends around here to chat about our lovely companions. Anyway, have a nice day everyone...see ya!!!

Hello people!!!

Oh... i just saw this thread while surfing on this website. I am so excited to see all of you...MALTESE OWNERS!!!! Helllllllooooooooooo

Let me proceed with some details about my "little bugger". She is going to be 4 years old soon... have her since she was 4 months old and she is an American citizen (while me, Malaysian lar of course). I brought her home with me from the States - balik kampung after completing my studies there. She lives with my mum and I in an apartment (hush hush - as its not allowed) and her number one hobby: Is to sleeps with her four legs up! - We call it "Parking at the doorway" Wink

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE her...

To sum it all up, I am so happy to meet you all here. Am looking forward to getting to know all of you and your furballs.

the size ar... he is about 3 1/2 months, i've never had a maltese before, but at home i had a mixed breed (sabrina) adopted from spca - a medium sized. to compare salem to sabrina, he is extremely small lor... and the previous owner mentioned that salem is much smaller than his sister. he is about a long ruler length. is it a small sized maltese??

I just notice this section. Great that we have a Maltese category, this breed still not very very well known. Adding Rufus (pic beside) to the list. Now, Rufus is promoting going nude ...actually I had to shave him due to skin bacteria infection. So Rufus can pass of as a JRT or chihuahua too Wink

Did anyone know that they tag Maltese (Mini) and normal Maltese? Didn't know that...not even in the books. Standards were suppose to be no more than 10 inches. Crazy

I think u should check her every couple of day and dun be afraid of flea. Do use FRONTLINE antiflea product. IT really can help u to prevent flea.

I'm from Penang but now living in K.L. I too have a female maltese and a male maltese too, just got the female yesterday. She is suppose to be the miniature type, i really hope i don't get tricked by the petshop. Shocked

But i'll love her no matter how big she becomes.

You say you want to breed her? What kind of husband do you want her to have? hehe! coz my sis owns a Shih Tsu and he is so ready to be a daddy. Are u interested? My sis is in Gurney Drive, Penang. Which part of Penang you living at?

eat ,eat n eat n hotel room rate is low some more got jacuzzi , n the spa in northern hotel,balinese style..cheap cheap also ler. maybe k-l member can organize a trip to penang for maltese gathering hehehe,just bought an estima, can fit in 7 person n a lots of maltese too

Hi! I'm have a miniature female maltese. She is currently 4 months old. Very cute and active. Would you be interested?

I bought her when she was 3 months old, I thought my other male maltese would be happy to have her around but unfortunately...after 1 month of trial period, he is behaving very badly towards her and me. He has a very bad temper! Unsure

Hi! yeah! We should organise something in Penang one of these days. I wonder if my oscar would be happy to see so many of his breed around. He has never met any other doggies except for my sisters Shih Tsu and he doesn't seem to like him Unsure

I wonder if he would ever be able to socialize?

Oscar is 'long' as well...wonder why? sometimes after grooming, when his fur is very short..he looks like a poodle. hehe!

Are you going to the Paws for a Cause at B.U. in May? I hope to be able to bring Oscar there. I've never been to any of Puppy.com's events.

Hi! She has MKA cert, she now weights around 1.2kg. Was told when I bought her that she will not grow very big. Up to 3 kg max...RM1900 (neg), i will give you her cage comes with water bottle, her toys, puppy food and her fav snack.

She can be caged. Right now she is being cages when I'm away at work. She is currently being toilet trained. I'm sorry, i don't know anything bout her parent's info coz i bought her from a petshop. Unsure

Of course i can reduce the price. The reason for such a high price is coz she is the mini type and she's a female which is quite hard to find.

Its okay, i'm glad you are asking a lot of questions. I feel safe selling my maltese to you if i know you are someone who loves dogs and want to give them the best life. You might want to bring along your current maltese when you want to meet her to see if your current maltese likes her. Wink

currently i trained my maltese to sit, down, & paper trained.

maybe u can put newspaper on the area ur dog pee or poo, rather than punish him for pee or po at the wrong place, reward him when he did at the correct place. my doggie take only 1 day to be 75% successful, but of corse i spent the whole day juz sitting there to train as the dog wont tell u when he will do it.

Hm...I don't have time to sit there and watch him. Work till late almost everyday. Only have time on weekends to actually watch him. He is very smart, if he knows i'm watching he will not do anything naughty. Once i turn my attention to something else, he will quickly do it. He's very smart! got a good good news, i got another 5 maltese now,total 7 maltese in da house, crazy happy ~!!!!!!!!

but have to wait for those 5 pups to grow up, can't wait, seems like alf boy does'n know he is father now and 'girl' is a very reponsible mother.

never left her chirldren unless i call for her.they all looks healthy and fat like little pig.

got a friends staying tropicana as well and he have 5 pugs at the moment . Wanna meet up someday ,can't imagine so much puppys together...haha

Congrats! Suddenly have so many cute puppies to play with.

Oscar is fine thanks but he's bein asked to move out coz he's bein very noisy! I even got a letter frm MPPJ asking me to move him or else i'm goin to be fine RM2,000 and/or put in jail. So worried! I'm now looking for a doggy daycare for him or temporarily leave him with my parents in Penang Unsure

Do you know any contacts who are willing to take care of my Oscar for me while I'm away at work during weekdays?

huh? where r u staying now? RM2.000 fine ...wow, me also scare lar...mine is double storey terrace but it is like resort park home, can't keep pets and need to pay for maintenance fees somemore.

lucky that they are not that kacao and noisy.the only way is to move out ~! i mean u can't always leave him somewhere else right? or leave him at the pet shop everyday,it will cost u a lot./

leave him with ur parents then u can't see him everyday......

It depends on many factors i.e. the operating cost of a breeder, quality of the puppy, quantity of the puppy delivered, imported or local, reputation of a breeder etc. Normally, maltese you seen selling at petshops will cost around 2k+, of corse there are very cheap ones and very expensive ones, you should visit more breeders and observe yourself.

dear all the maltese owners,

i just got myself a 2+ months mini maltese and his name is Ares. i loved him to bits! the only problem that bug me (i think it happen to everyone who own a maltese) is his eye stain. does anyone here have any useful tips on how to lighten the stain area? heard that cornflour can lighten the stain...how true is that?

btw, i'm from penang...if you guys have any gathering, please do include me. i wanna meet you all!

Anything for application will not improve the condition if not worst.

There is a product for consumption, "Health N Shine", very effective yet safe.

You can google "tear stain problem - health n shine" for more info.

hi guys... any idea where can we get this? milo (my 10 mth old maltese) has awful tear staining problem. if 1 day dun clean he'll start looking awful liao... this health n shine thingi sounds very promising!

i've done a google search on this, and it looks as though it's only available through online sales direct from supplier. anyone knows if pet safari or other common pet shops have this?

for me i just switched food and the tear stains were gone. my maltese gets 'heaty' easily thus where the tear stains come from. if u wanna try that formula, you can try asking leecy.
