Why not. There seems to be a slight sacasm in your remark 'as you seem to know your way around the block.' Perhaps I am sensitive. Anyway March is not far away and the place I am familiar with. If you really want to know my true identity it can be found in this forum. Look for an icon with a dally portrait. Happy searchingSly

Please don't say maybe. Be positive and say I shall cu @ the show

Hi, Thanks for your good wishes cos my bullies did good at the ABC Shows held in Auto City on the 06-02-2010 eventhough we only had less than 10 days to prepare.

Attached are 2 pics taken of my dog Mac who is now 16 months old an import from UK
taken after the ABC Shows. Both Mac & Queen got their CCs and Mac also won the Best of Breed !
Sorry the pics are slightly dark as we forgot to turn on the auto flash in all the excitement..ha.ha..

The sire of my 3 month old dog pup which will be arriving from UK on the 19-02-2010, Ch Bullyview Screaming Eagle
is featured in the latest Bull Terrier book and is also on the front page with pictures of his famous Sire Ch Bullbrit Little
Big Horn ( Bullyview Screaming Eagle's father) in the book too !

Congratulations!!! Your dog looks quite nice. I can imagine how happy you were when your dogs won those ribbons. I usually get very excited & pumped up when my dogs win something. lol

Will you be joining the March show here in Selangor? It would be awesome if we could meet up & see each other's dogs.

Thanks ! Yes, I hope to be able to show 2 or 3 bullies in the coming MKA ABC shows .
It would definitely be great to meet you and Knotidoc and all our friends from puppy.com at the show.
I have checked the website of MKA but it does not show where and when the next show would be held.
Are you sure it's going to be held in March and the venue is in Selangor ???
Will be looking forward to see you guys there and maybe we can 'park' our dog crates/kennels beside each other and that would definitely be wonderful !!!

Yep, I am 100% positively sure! I received the entry form about two weeks ago & it will be held on the 28th of March at SCP. We live just 15 minutes away from SCP. In case you don't know, the venue is pretty filthy so your white dogs will turn black pretty fast. The whole ground is soiled with doggy poop, pee, dust...you name it.

Yeah, it would be great if we could 'park' our dogs beside each other. Are you the only one handling the Bullies or is there someone else to help you?

Please don't paint an ugly picture of SCP. It all depends where the rings are. If it is held on the top floor of the car park then it won't be aircon but if it held at the concourse it isn't that bad. My interest in going to see is WHO IS BUYING LUNCH?Sly

As for Jason, you should enter both shows, bcoz you already have got 1CC and if you are fortunate, you could pick up a CC from the International Show and the other from the ABC Show and this will make your dog a Malaysian Champion.

Well, in the entry form it states that the show will be held on the rooftop level (like always). I believe it was only once or twice the show was held indoors. And it is true that the venue is a very filthy place, neglected & I personally don't know how MKA can even hold shows over there but it's their decision. What to do. I always feel like I need a LONG warm bubble bath after the show at SCP. lol

Knotidoc, me & my Mom will be too tired to even go downstairs to buy food after all the running, sweat & exhaustion. So maybe you can buy food for all of us. :)

U win this round re the state & condition of car park at SCP. But UR going to lose the other round. What makes you think your event will take place before lunch? Your dog could be judged after kunch or for that matter Gundog group could be the last group 2b judged. Then What?

Very Lame Excuse.

Wash up the place I don't think so. Sweep, may be. Don't worry about handling your exhibit, there will be plenty of helping hands so long you said "It's my honour if you guys would allow me to buy you guys lunch !" and that is good enough an incentive

Do U know what are the 'tools' to bring for the show? You need the following:-A brush, a pair of scissors, a synthetic chamios, a roll of paper tissue for hands, a fluffy towel. drinking bowl and some cotton wool and cotton buds and if available, dusting powder or just Johnson&Johnson baby powder.

At a later stage you could contact me for any arrangements.

Cheers.

I am very good at giving lame excuses. Well, sometimes group 6 will start early around 10 a.m. & sometimes it starts after lunch break. It depends. I HOPE Group 6 will start early because I hate waiting.

Actually I don't really eat at the shows. I drink a lot though so buy me LOTS of drinks.

I really don't mind handling one of your bullies if you'd like me to. I have groomed & handled someone else's two beautiful imported Ch Giant Schnauzers (black) at the previous show & they both managed to get CCs & BOBs in both rings. I did however charged them for the service but I don't mind handling yours for free. I just love handling other people's dogs. It's a good chance for me to get used to handling other dogs & breeds in the ring.

Do your dogs free stack on command? Do bring baby powder on the day of the show like Knotidoc suggested so that you can whiten your white dogs & cover up any imperfections before they enter the ring. I definitely think you should enter both shows afterall, it is only a few dollars more & your dogs might win more ribbons.

Baby powder is only an ideal substitute. The correct substance is white chalk block which is not at all available in any pet shops in Malaysia. However, have you come across a product known as Butterfly Brand powder block for ladies sold at Chinese Medicine Halls. In chinese you tell the counter girl I want a box of 'Woo Tip Sui Fun'.

Re: [GoldenAddict] English Bull Terrier breeder in Penang, Malaysia [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey thanks for the offer to handle my bullies !!!

My dog Mac whose pic I posted earlier is quite obedient and laid back so stacking him is no problem eventhough he does not stack on command. I usually have to 'position' him and he allows it and he is willing to stand there after we stacked him.
As for my 2 yr old local bred gal Queen, there is a slight problem there as she is so hyper active and playful that it's quite hard for me getting her to stack. Maybe you or Knotidoc can give some suggestions. I will put more time and effort in training her from now till the show.

I was initially quite worried about entering 2 or 3 bullies for both shows cos I was afraid that I am short handed but now with pros like you and Knotidoc offering to help out which I truly appreciate gives me back the confidence. So I will be entering my Mac and Queen and if circumstances permit I will also be entering my latest bully dog pup which will be arriving on the 20th Feb, 2010 from UK . So now you know my secret that it's not that I am afraid of spending a few dollars more for both shows but the fear of lack of handlers ha..ha..ha.. !

I am really happy and excited now knowing that you guys will be at the shows. It's a wonderful feeling to have friends around you at the shows !

I am currently using Johnson Chalk Powder and a powder which our grannies use in the old days which comes in a small square box with a pic of a lady on top of the box. The powder is in block form and it's really very white and if I have the time during the shows I usually mixed it with the Johnson Chalk Powder which is slightly of white.
I don't know whether it's the same Butterfly Brand powder block you mentioned.
Hey it's also quite dangerous if I mispronounce the name of the powder and the counter girl would give me a tight slap !

Try practicing after she's been well exercised & is not so excited otherwise you are setting yourself & her up to fail which is not what you want as you get frustrated, which gives off weak energy to her, weak energy will cause her to feel anxious so she will move more & the experience of stacking will be a negative one...all what you don't want.

Hand-stacking & 'baiting' her at the same time will help a lot. Do watch lots of YouTube videos of dogs & puppies learning how to stack. Also, check out this website. It's pretty helpful for beginners:

I find this highly interesting. I actually plan to show by Siberian Husky at the conformation show this March. This would be my first time showing and perhaps among the few times I'd been to a dog show. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect there at SCP? eg. Humidity?

Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hold your horses!!!! You should concentrate on the dog that had won a CC at the Penang Show. Bring only a dog and a bitch. As for the puppy arriving on the 20th Feb Will he be over 6 months old on the day of the Show? If yes then he could win Best Puppy in Show. Just enter him in the puppy class. If he is not more than 6 months old, no point in showing him bcoz he can only be judged as in Minor Puppy class. Win or lose he goes no further.

This is my advice. I can't be wrong.

Re: [scapolitejoshua] English Bull Terrier breeder in Penang, Malaysia [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

It's great to know that another newbie is gonna join the show. Well, there's nothing much to expect at SCP. It's a half dead place, the rooftop area (where the show will be held) is filthy like I mentioned in my previous replies, the place is dark & very stuffy. There's plenty of parking space BUT very few plug points so if you want to grab a good place & a good plug point, you better come early like before 7a.m.

Bring a fan or two for yourselves & maybe bring an ice pack too for your dog to keep cool. Dogs with thick coats like Huskies can easily get heat stroke in hot places like these. It's happened before to a Chow Chow & sadly it died. Be sure to bring a crate for your dog to stay in. You wouldn't want your dog looking all filthy from lying on the ground. Also bring whatever grooming tools you'll need to use on that day such as a brush, hair dryer, etc. Show dogs have to look their very best in the ring. They cannot smell like dogs nor look like dirty animals. No hair must be out of place.

Your dog needs to learn how to 'gait' & how to 'stack'. It's important that your dog learns how to 'stack' properly & stay in that position for atleast a minute or two. Most judges do not like to see a dog moving all over the place when they're trying to SEE it. You need to prepare all of this before March 28th. You got plenty of time. Start training your dog 5 minutes a day starting today.

Here's a video I found on YT taken in 2007 of Huskies being shown. The video is slightly on the blur-ish side but hopefully you can see what they're doing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckF20n_IQ1w

Watch how the handlers handle their dogs. You can mimic them. You'll also need to know what to do when the judge asks you to run 'back and forth' & 'around the ring'. You mustn't act unsure or confused. Always listen carefully to what the judge says.

One last thing, you need to be very VIGILANT at all times at the show because the steward will scratch your number off the list if you do not appear in the ring after 3 calls. They will not accept any excuses. Yes, MKA is that strict which is kind of good. The show goes much smoothly that way.

Hope I helped.

Re: [GoldenAddict] English Bull Terrier breeder in Penang, Malaysia [In reply to] Can't Post

Firstly, thanks GoldenAddict

This have been tremendous help on what to expect in the show. But i have certain enquiries or well doubts?

1. Reading the post about using baby powder to help make the dog whiter and cover up any imperfections. My breeder have too suggested me to use baby powder,

BUT,

I understand that baby powder is made of talcum and because of it's light and small form, it hangs suspended in the air. And because of this certain babies actually choke. According to doctors, frequent use of baby powder can in fact cause damage to the respiratory system. Would this be harmful to my dog?

2. This would be more technical I suppose. I have started training my dog on simple gaiting and perhaps the usual stand stay. He can now stack on command for about 30 minutes or so.

But my biggest concern, is from his high prey drive. Stacking requires a lot of focus from the dog to allow him to be judged at all parts of his body.He is fine with my toy poodle, and perhaps a couple of shih tzus, dalmations and poms in the neighborhood. But with such a huge number of dogs in one place, I can only assume the worse.

3. Being teeth checked; Me and my family have no problems checking my sibe's teeth and perhaps even my breeder. I have tried getting strangers to check his teeth. And the results have been well.. uncertain. Some we're fine, while others he would simply resists and perhaps tighten his muzzle.

Is there anyway to overcome this?

4. I'm confused. Reading your posts, I presume the show will be held at the Rooftop itself? Is it an open area. (i.e are there any air-conditioning, are there any shade?), while the preparation is done at the car park?

Would each participant be assigned a spot or is it on a first come first serve basis?

Your replies are great appreciated :)

P.S Perhaps we have strayed too far from the topic? Should we start a new topic? This after all is about English Bull Terriers..

Joshualee.

Thanks for the tips ! The trouble with my gal bully is that she is not interested in food/baiting ! Will try out stacking her after exercise. I usually try to stack her in between the walks and gaiting training. The www.dragonfly website don't seem to be able to load up. The husky video loaded up with no problem. Will check out more on YouTube and the internet on how to stack a super hyper active dog.. ha.ha..
It's getting interesting now with scapolitejoshua and his husky getting ready for the show too.
