I was in Ipoh for my Hari Raya when Yen called and told me about poor Roxy. How can anyone be soooo..cruel ???? Happy to hear that Roxy is doing fine. As usual,Yen is always there to lend a hand for needy doggies. SHe is such an angel. Angelic

The first time I met Yen was when I wanted to rescue the mummy dog near my work place and have no home for it. Yen came in the picture and offer her house....Unfortunately, the mummy dog was never to be seen till today, when we went in search for her...Crazy.

Perth...you are so kind, thanks a million...hope can meet up with you personally one day....Glad to meet many animal loving ppl in the forum...

some breed like rott, boxer, dobie, the standard is to have short tail mar, they all born with tail wan, but long time ago, maybe ppl wan them to look nicer, so they dock the tail, and now it has become a breed standard.

some countries, have Banned! tail docking liao. i think UK or where, forgot, so u see the rott, dobe all have long ori tail...

ppl who dock the tail argues that for working dogs, their tail senang got injured and very susah once its broken, so it needs to be docked. but others don't agree......

i believe got a proper way to dock off the tail rite... less pain mayb.. i'm not really familiar wit all this... hehe.. maybe there r reason of doin so.. so i dowan to argue on this..

but wateva it is.. using rubber band is so stupid la.. i can still remember the rubber band stick to roxy tail.. lik bcoming part of her skin edy.. both of us(roxy n me) was crying when taking it off...

jus don let me c any puppy wit rubber band la... gonna make their live a living hell... Mad

proper way of docking is of cos surgery at the vet, using anaesthesia....

Yes that is one way. Another is to use rubber band but they must be done before the pups are more than a week old. Cos before that the bone in the tail is not developed yet. So tying it will stop the blood and it will drop off naturally after 2-3 days. Something like the treatment for piles.

this way of docking called banding is not a proper and humane way at all, some even use scissors.

read about it...

*******

Tail docking: Why is the end of my dog's tail discolored?

A. I have a mix of the tail colors on the premises. Some of them have the discoloration and some do not. As far as I know, the damage is permanent. You should ask your veterinarian about it and listen to what he offers. Those of my dogs who do not have the discoloration or hair loss, in some cases, are those dogs whose tails where docked by a veterinarian. Those tails docked by the breeder have the damage.

The methods vary if the breeder does it themselves. Tying the tail off at the desired length and in a day or two-twisting it off. Some just cut the tail off and put some product on the tail to stop the bleeding. Some breeders do not bother tying the tail, they just twist it off at the desired length when the pup is two days old.

The vet has a couple of methods available to him. The best is to trim the tail ('V' cut) at the desire length and put one stitch to close the end. Some will trim and use surgical glue to close the wound. These two methods allow the puppy to heal quickly and in about two days, the tail is healing over and the puppy no longer is experiencing discomfort.
