Brush.

Otherwise the plaque will lead to gum disease. Just get a baby toothbrush and dog toothpaste or baby toothpaste. Easier if you get the dog used to it when he's still a puppy. You can ease the introduction by using a brush that fits onto a finger like a thimble.

hmm....i tot if u gv greenie n rawhide, there shldn't be any plaque built up...

but if there is plaque or tartar, u definately gotta start brushing...

i usually gv raw bone n is very effective...

getting my dog to brush is a disaster...she keep eating up all d toothpaste...Pirate

Dog toothpaste can be very expensive. Apparently baby toothpaste will do since it is mild and won't irritate the dog's innards when it swallows.

They'll tell you to brush daily - too much of a chore. I brush infrequently, as and when I feel it's time to clean her teeth.

No. She will squirm and such and try and keep her muzzle firmly shut and then she will lick the toothpaste greedily if I manage to get the brush inside.

May I know if use the dog toothpaste, does doggie need to gargle with water and spit it out like human? Or izzit use doggie toothpaste no need to gargle but just wipe?

haiyoh, if you can teach your wow wow to gargle and spit out, I salute you.

No need lah. Doggie will just lick and swallow everything. That's why you can't use human toothpaste, although word has it baby toothpaste is mild enough (since they too lick and swallow).

Hahaha...you r rite. Dun think he will spit it out but was thinking of using the water to just wash it off IF possible mar...But since wow wow eat got no problem with the tummy, then OK lar...makes life easier. Cannot imagine what will happen tho coz my wow wow when trying to clean ear & the eyes also squirm here and there trying to wrestle with me, I think brush teeth will be even worse.

You have to get the wow wow used to it, slowly. Might be easier to use the thimble/finger glove thingy first. No need to pry open the jaws at first. Just lift up the flaps by the side and brush the exposed teeth. Then slowly get wow wow to let you brush inside. Easier if start from young lah.

Got the timble like brush meh? Where you get one? I was thinking of getting the baby tooth brush. If can get something like what you recommend I think will be better. Easier to manage.

Also, my puppy is a golden. Tho he is still young (5 months +) but he is still a very big & strong puppy. He will also show me the Unsure face and struggle. So, have to hold him real tight at times and day NO firmly so that he will stay calm and lie quietly. Sometimes OK, sometimes, not really. Maybe, later as he grows use to it ( I have been doing it for like 3 months?) then will not be soo...susah lor...

its wat they called a dog's toothbrush, it looks something like toothbrush head but the body will be hollow, usually made out of plastic or rubber, u will need to stick ur index finger to complete the toothbrush look

try making the toothbrushing procedures a fun thing to do with ur gr, he'l then expect to do it more often

Hey all dog Owners Cool

Today bring my Silkies for polishing their teeth. Vet recommended me a new product that required us to rub the gel on to the teeth daily. No need brushing. This product will help soften the tartar when the dog eat the dog food kibble the tartar will drop off, at the sametime help prevent tartar buildup. 1 tube 70g cost RM35. Each application required 1cm gel for 10KG dog weight. I got this product from Brickfield Vet Clinic.

Hope this is good news to all dog owners out there Cool

I usually will let the vet polish their teeth about 2 years once. One dog cost RM150.

Polishing teeth will not cause any pain on the dog. The vet only brighten the teeth only mahCool It will not hurt the gum.

wow...dat long ah? so if u bring all your dogs for polishing, it will take like almost a whole day d lo....

hey, need to ask u...hv u ever clean by trying to squeeze out the excretion near the poo area of your furkids???

well..the reason is, i brought sasha to see vet and the vet told me that normally we should squeeze the 'near poo' area coz usually when our furkids poo, the body will produce some liquid near the poo area (not sure how to call the organ there)..n if we don squeeze out, it will accumulate and harden the muscle and sometimes might cause vomitting...

ever encounter such a thing? if yes, can u enlighten me more about this?

well...the vet has helped me to squeeze out the excretion...but sasha still seems tired and no appetite to eat....but she still plays once a while la....just dat can see she is not as active as before..really hope this is not somethg major

that's the anal sacs you have to squeeze, esp in small breeds. Otherwise, the fluid might just ooze out when you don't want it too, and it's VERY smelly. Squeezing also helps keeps the sacs and the ducts clear or they might get impacted and you might have an infection there.

ohh...icic.....so if i don squeeze it out, it will cause vomitting?

well....vet said that it is due to this that caused sasha to vomit and also slight stomach discomfort...so he squeezed d...but sasha still like very tired and no appetite...

it shouldn't be anythg severe rite? as long as I start to squeezed once a week shud b fine rite?

u did the same for ur MS too? thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

euh. don't know about the vomitting, unless the sacs are infected. overactive anal glands shouldn't case vomitting and loss of appetite unless there's something else the matter. You'd better follow this up.

I will picit my schnauze's poo poo place when it starts to get a bit smelly. Then all the fluid will come out.

its actually in dogs' instinct & natural to vomit if they happen to consume any harmful foreign objects, fluids, etc. their throats are not like ours, whr by each vomiting will cause inflamation to us but not for the dogs

Usually when your dog poo the liquid will come out together with poo. Sometime this do not happen and causes the anal gland store the liquid and it expand will lead to your dog feel itchy butt (bitting tail or chasing tail). This is the time you need to clear up their anal gland.

So far my silkies didn't face this problem (touch wood).

Hi! This is the first time i heard that we need to picit our dog's poopoo place. I also have a 3month old mini schnauzer. when should i start picit it? Everytime after he poopoo? And exactly where to picit? the area is very near the tail, so i have to picit the tail? Very hard to visualise...and what kind of thingy comes out? what colour? I need to know when i did it right... and poopoo place and vomitting...what's the connection?? Frown So many to learn!Crazy

We have a new member in our family! Her name is Jessie, a toy poodle!

but u might need to get someone to hold your doggie for you when u wan to picit...n use cotton to picit

but some members here said that when we saw our furkids feeling itchy and try to chase their tail..then we should clean it d...

Just need a bit of practice ler. This is a problem normally only for small dogs. The anal fluid usually comes out with the poo poo but sometimes the anal glands are overactive, or the passing of motion for some reason (e.g. poo too lembek) doesn't stimulate the anal sacs to discharge their contents. Like this you will have to picit lor, to clear the sacs. You will know when you have to do it, when you find that there is an awful smell coming from the poo poo area. Sly

Best to get someone, e.g. the vet, to show you how to do it. If you take your dog to a prof groomer, they ought to be able to show you how to do it since they're supposed to be able to do it for your wow wow. It's really not that difficult (if a bit er, smelly and messy . . .). I learnt it from a book!

Er, donno about jack russells specifically. What I have heard is that this is a common problem in small breeds. Overactive anal glands will not affect the outward appearance of the poo poo place. That can be pinky clean but if the smelly thing wants to come out, it will.Laugh

Ask the vet or groomer to show you ler. Maybe your jack russell no need to picit ler.

Hi there!Frown
How does the vet know that Sasha is not feeling well? What are the symptoms? Haha..i dunno whether not being able to smell the "smell" is a good thing or not! haha... I am having flu right now and nose is blocked...so most probably can't smell anything even if Benji is smelly. haha. So, if i know some of the symptoms (eg. losing appetite etc..) it will be easier... :)
btw: out of topic again, when you bathe your sasha, does she shiver a lot, even about 15 minutes after the bath?

jessicaohh..

yes its important to brush their teeth.. if not, imagine Sasha licking you with bad breath..

but bad breath can be partially cured with chewables (rawhide, greenies, etc).. yet still has that little of its bad breath (sometimes smells like coffee)

well, u can get a tube of doggie toothpaste from midvalley at rm27.

how to use: 1. apply a small pint size of the toothpaste onto the provided toothbrush. 2. let sasha smell and lick it until she gets used to the toothpaste 3. once she does so, lift up the skin beside the teeth and start brushing 4. at the meantime, stroke and praise sasha lots so she does not panic 5. after brush, let her drink water + praises

Is it drop on = spot on? I got 1 spot o Frontline. Really good. Just last week I found ticks/fleas on my dog. Really huge ones. Those blood suckers...yuks. when you press them, there is a popping sound and then the blood splatter on your finger.

After bath, quickly apply the spot on Frontline, after few days, we check again, no more ticks & fleas!!

So, I also would like to recommend this spot on Frontline. Really effective.Frown

Nope. No need to wash. Not suppose to bath him for at least 24Hrs. So, better don't bring him for swimming/bathing after applying. Since I bath mine once a week, so it is another week before my Caesar take his bath.

Ya, my drop on means spot on actually, juz open up the fur at the neck there, then pour the liquid on the skin. Better don immediately after bath lo, then after apply don bath for 1 oe 2 days. You can play with the dog safely after applying the medicine.

Yup. You don't need to apply the whole body. Only 1 spot will do. But must be at the skin. So, you just need to part the fur untill you can see the skin and then picit the liquid on to the spot. The medication will take 24hrs to spread all over your wow wow's body. So, if those blood suckers bite your wow wow, they will get poison attack and drop off.

meanin the chemical solution will absorb thru the dog's skin & spread itself throughout the entire body... hmmm... will go get the details & do some research 1st cuz i may be quite on the disagreein part on chemical solutions that work in this manner. reason bein this type of chemical solution may need a higer dosage if u would want it to spread thru the entire body, therefore if u apply on the exact same spot every time u use it, u may clog the skin cuz these chemical solution may not get dissolved evenly & entirely. might come to a point whr u will notice a skin irration, rash or worst inflamed skin on that exact same spot. i think better at the moment u use a t different area of the dog's skin 1st, i'l do go do saome research on the chemical solution 1st ok?? cuz every chemical solution have their exact mixin ratio, therefore over dosage may happen if we're jz a little careless here with this chemical solution

cheers

Better don't use frontline so often. Spot on not so bad compare the spray one. The chemical will damage the dog coat!!!

Once your dog is free from fleas & ticks try to keep your dog indoor & keep your dog & house clean & dry all the time. This is the best way to prevent your dog getting ticks & fleas.

I bought my Frontline during the event held in Central Park. If I recall correctly, the spot on will depend according to the weigh of the dog. Just check at the box. Just like when you buy the heartguard for your Sasha, the frontline spot on is according to the type wether it is small , medium or large breed dog. I bought mine at RM60 per box of 3 for large breed dog. You have to empty 1 tube per application. So, one box can last you for 3 months.

I think for Sasha will be cheaper coz she is a toy dog mah...dosage sure less than large breed dog.

Maybe the anal sacs are empty that's why nothing come out. Or your technique is wrong. Get vet or some experienced person to show you lor. If everything's working fine, sometimes, when your dog poo poo, you will also see the anal fluid squirting out.

yup, doggies squat down with their hind paws, above ground, their arses touchin the floor. then they use their front paws to pull emselves forward with their arses rubbin on the ground. they do this for few reasons though. cleanin their arses or scratchin an itch. so u can monitor if they do this too often, then its a little no no

normally i'l spray once every mth...but come to think of it..it;'s chemical...if they are ok, don think it's good to spray so often...so i'm planning to only spray when i notice ticks lo...

yeah, u r rite...by dat time, got ticks d lo...but once u spray, the ticks will only b on the fur and won touch the skin..so easier for u to catch lo...

only spray her before or after 48 hours of bathing to be effective...

Yup. Avoid frequent spraying of frontline. If you notice only got one tick just catch the tick and kill. No need to spray frontline.

Frontline Spot-On No.1! 24hrs protection 7 days a week 30 days a month

Back to Brushing teeth: That's the MOST TEDIOUS PROCESS to go thru.Pirate......but the reward pays off.Sly

I remember I had to spend a few weeks getting Rascal used to having an object in his mouth, rubbing against his gum. That was my finger. Then i moved on to the beginners kit of K9 Dentalcare which includes toothpaste and the thimble thing. Well i used the thimble thing without toothpaste first...when Rascal was more comfortable with that, I started introducing the toothpaste. That's when the most tiring part begins. He seems all too interested in licking the toothpaste and hence his tongue was all over. Therefore, very hard to brush! Unimpressed But now, he is more relax already. I brush his teeth every week when i bath him. All in one go! So I think it's time for him to graduate from Thimble school and move on the real thing!!!

I saw this very unique toothbrush in Sunway 2 days back. Maybe I'll go get that. Will post a pic of it once I get it OK! Wink

Reason why not stick a toothbrush straight into ur furkid's mouth is because they might just chomp it off and thus injuring themself and as a result they will develop a phobia. That's why my friends taught me to use my finger first and massage their gums. You have to get their confidence in order for them to have confidence in you to let you stick something into their mouth. Tongue That's one of the hardest part because you're scared he might chomp down on ur finger. If he bites too hard, you scold. They'll learn in time that it's ur finger and will no longer bite or nibble on it. You get thru that stage, the rest is pretty easy.

Besides brushing, I also apply this layer of Gel which protects the teeth from Dental Plague build up. It's called OraVet. I donnu if we can get it over here but I got 2 years supply from the US when I got back. Well the vet there suggest I brush his teeth EVERYDAY and apply that gel thing once a week!!! Crazy But I'm just plain lazy....and since he eats only kibbles, so I only brush once a week and apply the gel thing whenever I have the time. HEHEHE.......

The result......so far......only very lil build up of plague at the back teeth. Front ones....can do an ad for Colgate Pearl White. I also let him chew on rawhides. But that's because I dont want him chewing on other stuff....oral care from those hides are just secondary to me. Rascal wont chew on Dentastix or any Greenies. Tried and failed......in the end, gave all away to a friend who recently got a GR puppy.

nice idea ! like it :) u can advertise this slogan lio haha !

tedious in brushing teeth? really? hmm.. firstly i find it very hard to get molly to sit quietly for me to brush her teeth, cus she tends to run away. but now, i used to give her dentastix after the session so she finds it exciting =)

but u hav a very good sequence of brushing her teeth, many should see this hehe.. then life would b easy

u use colgate to brush his teeth besides the dog-grade toothpaste ?

Re: [SupaMolly] We need to brush our doggies' teeth??? [In reply to] Can't Post

Tongue hehehe...I think Molly runs because of a few reasons only.

1. She wants to PLAY!

2. she doesn't like you putting a foreign object in her mouth. It's very common among dogs who are not used to having something in their mouth while ur holding it.

So maybe you can try getting her to sit still first for a longer period of time. Then try lor.....use ur finger first lor. Wink

All I can remember how I got Rascal to sit still and be comfortable chewing on something which you are holding is the first time I got him a rawhide which was tooo big for him to hold on his own. So he wouldnt chew on it if you just give it to him, we have to hold it up for him while he chews on it till it got shorter so he could hold it on his own. After that, it was pretty easy getting him to let ya stick your finger in his mouth. When he bites hard, I just yell OUCH and tell him NO. After sometime, everytime I go OUCH! He backs off and knows he's hurting me. Hahahahah........

I personally think it's important to keep their teeth clean especially if you are feeding them a moist diet. It may be a little tiring for you and takes off some time from your busy schedule, but at least it makes them happier, helps them enjoy what they love to eat to an older age and spare them the GA for tooth removal. Dogs these days are so lucky..........they have toothbrush, toothpaste, OXYFRESH (something you put in their water to freshen their breath and apparently helps with plague build-up) besides Rawhides, Dentastix and Greenies to clean their teeth. When I was really young, I dont remember the Spitz that I used to have had any dental care at all! And her breath.......wohooooooo.........could kill those burung pipit that comes close to her! Crazy

We brush our teeth twice a day. And some dogs, NEVER in their entire 10-13 years of life. If we can afford it, even if you never intend to send them for scaling, I think brushing their teeth once a week is not too much to do. Dont you think so? After all you will bath ur furkid. So do all at once lah.

hmmm.. playwise, i don think so.. she will run away tinking im trying to 'hurt' her lol!

but 2nd point, i would agree. she got irritated and shocked hahaha ! and yeah. s long s there food after tat, then the prob kau tim ade

for ur idea on brushing teeth, i must say is very true. since dogs stay with us, we must also keep them clean besides keeping ourselves clean. for those dogs tat never been taken k of their cleanliness for the whole doglife, really, i wanna say is sad for the dogs.

molly's breath once, abt few mths ago, smelled like coffee haha ! then from tat day onwards, is brushing teeth every week and chew on dental rawhides. then, now, white teeth.. she hapy, me hapy too

Hola there,

Just to let you know, my vet advised me to try not to remove the ticks directly from the doggie. Because when you remove the tick, it will create an open wound on their body, thus making it like a breeding ground for the tick as well. Well, sometimes I cant help it and pull it out from the skin as well. But it is best not to. For my doggie, I use frontline spot-on because according to the vet, the spray one might not be able to reach everywhere. Just make sure that you apply it at least 48 hours AFTER their shower. If their skin is still wet, the spot-on wont be able to work effectively. Moreover, their coat might look dry to us, but their skin takes quite sometime to dry. So I would say that 2-3 days after their shower would be the best.

fyi, frontline's active ingredient is also used as pesticide to kill termites, its some sorta new generation insecticide, use with care.

back to the teeth brushing topic,

here is a very good site about pet's dental health by
a vet who specialise in pet dental care.

http://www.dentalvet.com/Default2.htm

if most of you could, pls try to brush, once a week is better than none, don't rely on chews.

i've tried those 3 angle toothbrush but i still prefer the angled CET brush, where it can reach inside the mouth
easily, and have better control.

there wasn't alot of dog toothpaste in the market here,
i only use CET and got my supply frm SG, which is almost half the price.

i hope to post some pics showing how i brush my dogs teeth...

yea, termidor etc is not available over the counter, so anyone who have termite problems at home, could try spraying with frontline first b4 calling pest controllers who charges a bomb.

video is a good idea, need some time to get it done,

im lucky my mutts don't put up a struggle, or bite my hand, its only their tongue thts a bit in the way when they are swallowing while i brush, and also the brush will irritate their palate when i brush the inside of the teeth, this sometimes will make them gagged for a very short moment, if this happens just stop the brushing and con't when it stopped.

i didn't start brushing my mutts teeth at least once every 2 days until 2 years ago. they are now 10yo.

initially i tot just chews n' some erratic brushing with the finger brush is suffice, this has been done for many years until i saw the greenies poster in sea park pet, it shows the stages of periodontal disease (very good marketing by greenies).

carefully checked their teeth n' realised that there is quite a lot of tartar on those last molars, the colour is just like the teeth itself, so sometimes ppl dun notice it, and u need to pull the lips wide enuff to have a good look.

after scaling, i noticed gingival recession, attachment loss, on most of the teeth and quite serious on one molar. went to animal hospital for more opinion, dr siva advice using the laser to remove the gumline further, to prevent food from accumulating there. he used some kinda cement (not those in dentalvet) to patch the exposed root n' furcation. the cement job wasn't a good one, most of it fell off, and it actually prevents the gum from growing/healing well.

i wasn't satisfied, so i went to dr prem, to have all the cement removed and to extract the bad molar.now the gums healed nicely. Smile

NO KIDDING..........K9 have orthodontic care too .....wah lau eh.....use the same type of stuff that was once on my teeth many years ago.

Aiyo......imagine putting braces on our dogs. So every few weeks have to bring the fella in to retighten the wires. Hahahahahaha how would the dog react to having a bunch of metal stuff in their mouth. And the job must be excellent cos dog's tongue are sooo long, they might get hook up with the metal brackets should the metal brackets have odd edges. I mean, my tongue so short also kena hook by those horrible metal stuff before. Imagine dogs.

I'm just sooo fascinated by that idea. Hahahah really cant imagine it. Looks like my next google quest would be 'Dog's with Braces'. Sly

well alot of ppl who operates business claims to be experts but actually they aren't n' they do a sloppy job.... all of us deals with these ppl e'day, whether u realize who they really are or not.... it depends on ur wisdom....

back to the topic.....

CET is a brand by Virbac, Virbac a veterinary pharmaceutical company devoted exclusively to animal health. http://cetdental.com/default.asp
few years ago i think DHKS pet brought in the toothpaste and it sits on the shelves until all of them are expired, cost Rm 37++? last time. only SGD 10++ in sg.

u can use baby toothbrush as long as its comfortable for u to brush/access the back molars.

A clever move by RhoneMA Msia, they market Orozyme here, at least we still have a qualilty toothpaste for our dogs. Don't just apply the gel, use it to brush if u could, of cos it'll be more effective. List price RM 32 per tube, yeah expensive. Available frm most vets n' pet shops.

i think should be ok.....well someone told me before, if its safe for kids, it's almost always safe for our furkids too. What kids can take, they can take too. When they say kids, referring to toddlers lah...below the age of 3. So if its safe for babies, then its safe for Rascal too. I'm using baby wipes now on him to wipe his paw clean and his ass. Doggie wipes are soo freaking expensive here. Crazy So cheap replacement lah....for RM10 i get a whole big bottle of baby wipes. Hahahaa

Just try a bit first lo...i'm gonna do that next when I finish his toothpaste that I brought back.

its not advisable to use human toothpaste for dogs, it may cause stomach upset.

the ingredient in dog toothpaste is NOT the same as human's. Almost all good dog toothpaste have enzymes to help break down tartar n' prevent plaque formation.
It doesn't have those foaming agent, mint or other flavours.

can ur kid toothpaste be swallowed?? the kids can eat it? no need to gargle?

remember, if ur furkid is not feeling well, even a slight upset of the stomach, he/she won't be able to tell u like a human kid u noe...

so its up to u to risk it...
yeah fine, my dog din vomit, nothing... happened,
you'll never noe how he/she really feels....

any vets who recommend kids toothpaste? i wana noe who he is....Sly

Re: [jessicaohh] We need to brush our doggies' teeth??? [In reply to] Can't Post

I just want to add reading this thread. Anal sacs cannot simply picit one o..If the dog can solve the problem on their own, don't attempt to start doing it for them unless you really need to and after go see vet. Once you picit, in most cases you have to continuosly do it. Also, better for vets to teach you..a lot of groomers have no formal training on it, squeezing to hard can damage the anal sacs and you have a bigger problem in hand, might need surgery to rectify. Even if picit, don't do it too often, once per month is mostly sufficient unless your dog's anal sacs really has a bigger problem. Doing it too often can also irritate it. For a puppy, even if it is 3 months old, there is usually no anal sacs need to be emptied problem. Puppies who scoots a lot are usually due to worms or they just want to clean their butt after poo poo much like human using toilet paper. I know this because my dog does it a lot and I used to bring him to the vet and my vet informed me of what I should know and he didn't attempt to squeeze it because he was only 3 months old at the time! Later, as it turned out, he had round worm problem. His habit stayed till now, 10 months old liao..still like that but vet checked say no anal sac problem..it is because after he poo if I don't fast fast wipe his butt for him, he wipe it on my carpetCrazy, treat my carpet like toilet paper...now I always have to deep clean my carpet because of his this behaviour Unimpressed

As for teeth, I had Siu Pao's 4 canine baby teeth removed today because they will never come out on their own and the impacted adult and baby teeth causes bad breath and rotten teeth if left untreated. I waited for so long and until now, they still very muchh intact. Hopefully, no more smelly breath from him after this..every time he kiss me, I wanna pengsan lerLaugh Still, their teeth need to be brushed ever so frequently to mantain smiling white teeth. A tip for everyone who reads this...its not hard to brush your dog's teeth. Just corner them or put them on a table (small dog) hold the fur under the mouth (hold firmly), they might try to wriggle out but if you hold firmly and you quickly bruh a few times, eventually after a few practice they get the idea and will relax to let you do what you want. My boy is trained this way now he just stand/sit still on the floor let me brush however long I need to, usually 3 minutes done liao.

i still think its better to use dog toothpaste like CET, if kids can't swallow the kids toothpaste, its not good for the dog to ingest it as well.

There are 1 dozen of new CET toothpaste in sea park pets now, its new, expire sept 2009, retail at RM 30.XX only, not sure who brought it in, maybe Mrs chui might give a bit of discount. Last time the price is RM 37.XX

but still SG is selling at S$ 10.6 only.

For me, 1 tube of CET last for 4 months, 2 dogs, brush teeth almost 6 times a week, only skip when im too bz.

My male dog just had his premolar n' first molar removed last week. I check their teeth often n' found out that abit of blood and abscess ooze frm below the gum at the first premolar. Should be some kinda infection below the gum.

A further check by the vet during tooth removal revealed that one 1st molar was lacking support at 2 of its roots, the 'pocket' is too deep, means the roots and bone support have been 'eaten' away. its best to remove the tooth as well.

A quote from dental vet . com,

"Periodontal disease starts with the formation of plaque, a transparent adhesive fluid composed of mucin, sloughed epithelial cells, and aerobic, gram positive cocci. Plaque starts forming twelve hours after dental cleaning. If the plaque is not removed, mineral salts in the food will precipitate to form hard dental calculus. The calculus is irritating to the gingival tissue, changing the ph of the mouth allowing pathogenic aerobic gram negative bacteria to survive subgingivally. By-products of these bacteria "eat away" at the tooth's support structures eventually causing the tooth to be lost."

that's y brushing everyday is highly recommended.

the 1st molar on the left belongs to my female dog, removed last year, notice the 2 thin roots, its the side tht face outside.

there's no decay on the tooth, just that the roots have been 'eaten' away, the black stuffs are tissues and blood.

yes...but some say use children toothbrush can liao....

I think it all depends on your dog's mouth lor...like I have 2 ACS and with the folding of their cheeks, it's pretty difficult to use such a short handled toothbrush. So the doggies toothbrush are usually longer in length. Hence easier grip and can brush all the way in lor.

Right now I'm using a 3-sided brush head toothbrush. My mum got it from Singapore and I think I saw the toothbrush in the Pet Lovers Centre in Pyramid. Just started using the toothbrush on my bigger ACS but he doesnt seem to like it because he is used to the fingertip toothbrush.

Try checking out the SS2 Pet Supplies shop, they might carry a wider range of dental care for dogs.

this type of dual ended toothbrush is long, and the angled head makes if perfect to reach inside the jaws.

im using this by cet, there is also a green colour brush looks exactly like this by triple pet?

if u r referring to sea park pet, i've just been there last weeken, they dun hv toothbrush at tht moment, i think.
the other shop near savemart i'm not sure.

anyway its always better to start with a finger brush for dogs who have never been brushed.
with finger brush, u might need to change the brush to the other hand in order for u to brush all the teeth in the dogs mouth....

the triple head brush gets the job done faster.

just make sure u turn around to face ur dog, n' brush the teeth inside the jaws, ie molars....
