I personally do own maltese as well, love this breed bcs they dont really shed & they are so cute!

Hi. I'm very interested to get a westie but somehow those that i saw in petshop, especially in pets wonderland are not in a good shape. furthermore, the birth certificate is still with the custom after few months clearance. anyone has any idea or have any good deal for westie in kl? i know of ipoh are selling westie but hardly in satisfatory condition. so ipoh westie is definitely out, any idea? thanks.

just for info.

as far as i can recall from my lectures on small animals, onions and garlics can be toxic to dogs due to their contain of thiosulphate. so it is not alright to say "there is no problem for them". onion toxicity is dose dependant, so the bigger the dogs is, the more onion needed to be ingested to cause toxicity. onion toxicity cause heinz body anemia, which are small bubble-like projections protruded from a red blood cell and can be seen when the cells are stained. This "bubble" is a weak spot in the red blood cell and, therefore, the cell has a decreased life-span and ruptures prematurely.

The toxic effect of the onions are the same whether the product is raw, cooked or dehydrated. The hemolytic episode usually occurs several days after onion ingestion (lowest hematocrit around day 5 post ingestion). Daily feeding of onions could have a cumulative effect due to ongoing formation of Heinz bodies versus a single exposure with a wide gap until the next exposure, allowing the bone marrow time to regenerate the prematurely destroyed red cells.

I strongly recommend NO ONIONS for dogs, be it mongrel or pedigree. There is no benefit and certainly the potential to cause harm.

We met at the UPM Dogathon, If I'm not mistaken.

As at today, I still have not heard of any Westies pups for sales except the pair imported from Taiwan which are very pity [so pittyful of their suffering] and still in the petshops.

Looks like you have to wait for few more months unless you import it from outside Malaysia.

Will tell you if I found one. Are you still with Astra***** and still keep your 9096 number.

at rm 800 ur fren have a wide selection of choices wor ...... good luck in ur frens finding .... i suggest shih tzu for long hair and pug/minpin for short hair ...

Westie is very rare in Malaysia, maybe many have it out there but not in this forum. Hardly find one for sale.

Anyway will inform you if there is any.

I read through some other older topics. I came across someone saying something about a Thai breeder. Also import from Australia will be good. Etc.

We got ours from Thailand because we were living in Bangkok at that time. But because of the lpotential language barrier with the breeder know, would anyone else in this forum be able to recommend other sources? Ern, did you get yours from Australia?

I have a male westie from Australia. ChiQi is almost 5 years old already. I love this breed so much because he is so obedient and loving. I have been looking for a companion for him for quite a while and I came across some puppies a week ago Cool. I managed to get a female pup only from a breeder.

After a week of keeping Chiyo-chan, I realised that I don't have enough time to care for such a lovely puppy given my busy schedule. To make matters worst, my neighbors were not happy with me having 2 dogs and they made so many complains to the management office Mad. I am also afraid that they might force me to give ChiQi away. So, I had to find little Chiyo a better owner.

I interviewed many people before deciding on this lady. She is a housewife who needed a companion because her children are all grown up. Best of all, she once owned a Westie before and will only settle for a westie as her dog now. Not to mention that she lives close to me and promised to update me on her well-being.

Yesterday, I handed this puppy to her new home. I hope that I have found lil Chiyo-chan a lovely home with all the attention she needs. I miss her so much... FrownFrownFrown

It was advertised on the papers. They had 5 puppies (3 Female & 2 Males). Chiyo is 9 and the half weeks already. Her parents are from Hungary. She looks a little different from my ChiQi when he was a puppy.

Well, my intention of getting Chiyo in the first place was also to breed. I feel that there are too few westies around here and they are such great house pets. I am so glad I found this website. Only now I know I am not the only westie owner around.

How old is your westie? Where is he from? He looks very much like my ChiQi.

I saw the pictures. ChiQi is very well groomed. I hope our dogs will get a chance to meet at one of the dog events soon. I've seen Ern's westie and Arisa's westie (named Recca) at dog events at Central Park this year and they've met Sparky too.

I read that westies tend to have skin problems. When he came from Aust, he has some skin problems so I only feed him lamb & rice with no corn and wheat products. So far, so good. Does your dog have skin problems?

I heard there are loads of lovely dogs in Thailand. I saw some at Chatuchak market. It is reliable to get a dog from there?

Very hard to run into Westies in Malaysia but Sparky attracts a fair bit of attention wherever we go, be it a visit to the Pet Safari at Ikano or when we send him for grooming at SS2. Quick question, who does the grooming for ChiQi? Both my wife and I like how he looks.

He never had much skin irritation when we were living in apartments but since moving into a house, he's been more prone to them. If the skin irritation gets bad, we spray something called Orgaderm on it and it heals really fast (within a day or 2).

About Chatuchak dogs, the answer is a big fat NO. The dogs there are sick and you can't be sure of the quality and purity. Better to find Thai breeders and go to their kennels.

i know what u mean by attracting attention. some of my guy friends love to joke by asking me to loan them ChiQi as a babe bait. speaking of dog exploitation... Tongue

i send ChiQi to a pet shop at cheras known as the little pet shop. the shop is run by a few orphans who are really great at grooming and are very accommodating. all the other dogs in my family goes there too.

where do u live? cheras is a little far to bring Sparky if you don't live close by.

thanks for the rash tip. will bear that in mind if ChiQi gets again. also, glad that i asked about the Chatuchak thingie. Frown
