Hi there,

Great to hear that you are a dobe lover. Yes. I do have one which is three months old. I yet to take his pictures to put up here.

He is a pure working line Dobermann....if i'm not wrong....both the parents have working titles too. I name him JET,yes a male and black and tan.

Why didn't you get one dobe too?? Since you got so many people with dobe related.

Is that your husky?

Cheers......

well i was contemplating 3 breeds...dobe but red, gsd or husky...but i wan my dog to stay in house w me so i researched n the sibe is most appropriate amongst the 3. with dobes n gsd, they can b aggressive if i dun socialize them well, n was worried if i had the time to do so...so kind of scared if my dobe/gsd turns out to be a killer dobe kakkaka...there r a lota kids around my neighbourhood...n my family visits me once every 3 mths...wun wana have to keep my dog away if it decides not to be too frenly... :) tell me more of your pup...i am in love w mine now...but she's kinda lonely i think...wheres your location?

Hiya Dobe,Smile

Am a fan of the dobermann...I love the working lines with their temperamant and "conformation";dark, deep chested and solid. There are actually a few otehrs who like dobermanns as well. (They noe who I'm talking abt!)

One of them is into SchH/Protection..his dobe has lovely OB(very attentive!),is extremely calm but very high drived (as seen in his OB/protection)..wonderful hse pet as well.

Mine on the other hand..well,I would love a working dobe but I got her way before I knew "working line" existed. She's a mix of Aus,US,Canadian and local show lines. Not my ideal dog but oh well. She is part of the family.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your working dobe from? What does his pedigree look like (out of curiousity Blush)..?

Hi Dobe fans,

I intend to purchase a Dobe for our house protection & as a companion for our ECS. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between working & show qualities? Appreciate if someone could provide contacts on availability of good lineage Dobe puppies.

Rgds,

Hi there,

Heard from a German GSD breeder that working lines don't conform to show stds in many aspects (ie. appearance, colour, size, etc.). Show lineage ones will not hv the qualities of the working lineage ones.

However, when I consulted a Dobe breeder (Sunny Academy), he said that his Dobes are bred with both show & working qualities (2-in-1). Hope to get some confirmation on this matter, before I purchase one, coz' Dobe pricetags don't come cheap nowadays...

BTW, what's the price range of Dobe puppies in the market? I've only one contact & thus would not be able to make any comparisons.

Appreciate all comments.

Re: [MOYSC] Any DOBERMANS fans here? [In reply to] Can't Post

cant comment much about the cross shw versus workline...but just thinkin out loud...if u cross them they may have either one quality or both all mixed up...like the head conform to showline but not the size etc...which i tink its even worse...but this is just a tot....

i suppose it all boils down to what u wana do with the dog...if u just wana a house guard dog who will bark if any strangers break into your house then dobe with or without show and workin line will do...they are all have the same guard dog instinct...some more sensitive n bark louder n vice versa....i have seen many dobes in my life...if they are out, they may be all nice n frendly...but once they r in their terrotority...all of them barks and give warnings...some as though the;re gona eat me up, some just mere warnin barks...

bt if u intend to show them or train them for shutzund then...u also wun be getting a show + workin line cross anyway....

i'd seen dobes abt 1200 to 1500ish w cert but some 1800 - 2500 w big paws....n mayb some will have one parent who's a champ....if this is the price in the petshops...m sure u can get homebreeders for cheaper prices....good luck!!!

my sis best fren use to have a fantastic dobe...he's barkn till his teeth all baring and saliva flying everywhr, but whn she opens the gate n ask him to sit, he sits there without a sound...she tell the dobe..."fren" - dats me...ask me to extend my hand for him to smell, n i was like "u must be kiddin"...but after much persuasion i did...since then he barks whn i see him, but once he looks closer n knw its me...he shuts up...amzing huh? my dad use to have a gsd who is also like dat....i can go on 4ever....

Re: [MOYSC] Any DOBERMANS fans here? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hiya Smile..hope u don't mind me answering...

Well..many do conform to the standards but I think they are not as "beautiful" as the show lines.Quite a numbr of german show line dogs (thanks to the their system!) I believe still can work..I think the biggest difference is that they are not as plentiful as working lines (it is not wht they were bred for) and not as intense.

In germany,it is a requirement for the parents(dobes, gsd's,rotts, pointers etc) to obtain a minimal working title before being able to produce a fully certified litter;or at least a pink papered one.I think certain parts of EU are also trying to follow this rule to avoid the deterioration of the breed.(not so sure abt this..!)

Everywhere else...it is not required for them to attain the working title. Frown In countries like Canada,America,Aus and even locally...u can see a very big difference between the 2 lines...working lines are working dogs...and show dogs with not much working ability as it was not given much emphasis.

That being said,I think it would be better to look at the dog individually..as there wil always be exceptions.

That's just my $0.02 cents Smile

i also had experience encounter dobe..

my frenz parents bought a pair to guard their 'mansion'...

whenever v visit their house, d male dobe will bark until i oso got scared of him. he seems like wanted to kill us, extreme agressive. me as a dog lover, dun ever dare to approach him at al...

while on d other hand, d female is totally opposite.....she's so shy n timid, dun even had a single sound. when i approach to pat her. she tries to hide herself wit her tail tuck under....

Hi RealityDreamer,

Looks like you hv a nice tough dog as yr avatar. Is that your GSD? Seldom see such unique colour, except once when I visited a German who was a GSD breeder for working lines in PJ Old Town.

Meanwhile, thanks for yr comments. I really don't know how to see what's good & what's not on a Dobe. Sunny K9 Academy specialising in breeding Dobes hv given me an indicative price of RM3.3k for a 3.5mth old Dobe pup with cropped ears, parents US/Mal Champs lines & good temperament (working line with nice features but not show quality though). I wonder whether that was a Dobe's market value nowadays, coz' the last time my parents had a Dobe was more than 20 yrs ago. Those days, it only costed us RM500 for working quality w/o cropped ears.

Appreciate if you could comment further. An still looking for a guard cum companion dog for my family.

Rgds,

Re: [MOYSC] Any DOBERMANS fans here? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, read all the postings and found the points stated very interesting. To simplified things, do bare in mind a GSD is/was once a working dog and so they do look a lot like the so call "working line" GSD, however over the years some breeders decided to throw in elegance to the look so the breeding so how was modified to the show line type of GSD.

As for Dobs, well they initially bred it as a protection/guard dog and the looks was achieved so in this case a "show dog" must have the right hind and shoulder, etc. In short there are no real divide for show and working lines. The breed does what it is suppose to do and hence ideal for OB and schH/Protection.

As for the price it is about right as per stated in one of your postings. Serious breeders are looking for real owners and not those who like one because it is cute so the price is always on the high side. One must also remember you are not only getting a so call "good bloodline" but you also getting an almost guaranteed temperament dog. One more point you need to realise is with a breeder he can match a pups temperament to you so you may not find yourself with an over domineering dog.

Have fun in looking for one.

Hello,

Do drop me an e-mail at reality69dreamer at "gee" mail .....i think it would be better to talk privately as it would not be proper in this forum..

Hmmm....do u hv a copy of the pedigree...? it's quite strange to find a working line dobe being a US champ as the US prefers slimmer more "elegent" dogs where as the working lines are very much bulkier.

I'm not sure how much dobe pups go for these days but i think 3.3k is a little steep...

Hehe..yes...that is my GSD...he's a sweetheart though he can be abit of a pain sometimes

Hi PSY & RealityDreamer,

Thx for all yr comments. BTW, here's the Dobe pup's info : Name: Sunacademy Rum Elegent Sex: Male, Color: Black/Tan, Date of birth: 24-04-06 Sire: Augustine Malibu Rum (Imp.USA) ( Champion bloodlines with good temperaments ) Dam: Sunacademy Opus Chinadoll. (Note Dam 's Sire: American Champion/ Malaysian Grand Champion bloodlines lines and Dam's Mother, USA Imported Malaysian Champion. I've absolutely no idea abt Dobe's pricing nowadays. Just hope my questions are not against the rules & regulations of this forum. Did check for Dobes for Sale in this forum but found none. BTW, checked about SchH training for GSDs in another thread. Can Dobes join in the fun too? Perhaps its too early to ask this question, since I've not even found myself a dog for that purpose, but I'm already excited to hear abt it. Any SchH training held in KL? Hv enquired MKA, but they say that it is under consideration. And Agility is also under consideration too... How abt PuppyCom? Do they hv SchH training or soon??? Cheers, MOYSC

Hi, I know the dam and her brother both have great temp and should be a good start but the Sire I am not certain. If you are serious, go meet up with the breeder and see what sort of serious price he is willing to give you. The pup in question may not suit you so you may end up not getting one from him but do take the first step. Sunny is also an establish trainer from the U.S. so again he will know if it is advisable for you and the dog to take up schH/protection competition. There are such training in KL/Selangor best person to ask is realitydreamer. She is very well verse into this sport and she herself is good trainer.

The question to ask yourself is "what do you want the dog for??" "Comformaty ot Sports" then it may be easier to narrow down the best pup for you. If you like you can contact me on liteweimer @ yahoo . com and then we can get into more details.
