Beagle Bitch -wanted. Can't Post

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for Beagle bitches, can swap with my Beagle puppies or outright purchase. Show me what you've got and I'll consider.

This is a good chance if your Dog or Bitch(preferred) is getting too much of a handful !

I'm trying to build up a pack of about 30 Beagles. ASAP

Tuckfook.

I'm dreaming of a pack of Beagles chasing wild boar through the jungles !

I rode with a hunt when I was in UK, a long long time ago. I was thrown off (the horse) at the first hedge and consequently finished the hunt following in a land rover. Very embarassing. Ever since then I've always dreamt of the sound of a pack of hounds, the howling and squealing, when they are on the chase.

Beagles are natural hunters. When they smell the babi they will chase automatically. Fear is that they chase kampong goats and chickens, which they can be trained not to but a pack can change these to satay before we even get a chance to stop them. Our dogs now have cost us a few goats in the past but after being scolded, they seem to have stopped. A goat can cost us about Rm300 even though it is not reallyworth that much!

Basic training is to call the dogs home. Once they learn to come when called, the rest will be easy. We start by using a specific call at meal times. Beagles are well known for being greedy so they will return for food. Then we use the same call when taking them out on excursions. When we know they can come when called, we then take them to small jungle patches with experienced dogs and the new dogs learn to hunt very quickly.

We have a large piece of land in a kampong where we keep the hunting dogs. Some of the wild boar is used to feed the dogs.

Wow...sound interesting! Tell us more on how do you train dogs for hunting.

Just wondering wouldn't the dogs attack and eat the pray before you reach there? Or is it that they just cornered the pray and wait for you to arrive to shoot it? Or is it the Alpha dog will retrieve the pray back for you? Do you use whistle to call them back?

Re: [GSlover] Beagle Bitch -wanted. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

In UK they use the bugle and horn to call the dogs, in Malaysia, they just use the voice to imitate a bark, like "Oh, Oh, Oh"

The dogs will just chase the prey and howl all the way. The howl indicates the direction and position of the boar being chased. The Boar will leave the jungle patch in it's bid to escape and hopefully a hunter will be there to shoot the boar. Boars are creatures of habit, as with most animals, so they usually enter and exit it's hiding place using specific runs or tracks through the bush. So a hunter has to wait at one of these tracks and judging from the direction and position of the howling, he can move to the most probable track to get the boar.

Training dogs to chase boars is the easy part. They just simply love to chase them. Calling them back is usually difficult but after a while the dogs learn that if they chase a boar and there is no gunshot when the boar leaves the jungle, they give up and come back, giving the hunters a look of disgust.

The best way to find out is to come hunting with me.

Hi Tuckfook,

I am a Beagle lover too! And I have 2 beagles of my own. One M and one F. May I ask why are you just looking for beagle bitch? if you want a lot of beagles ... you can have mixture of dogs and bitches, right? Anyway, I really hope you succeed in getting your flock of beagles. And if I do come to penang, I would really love to visit your group of beagles. I also enjoy watching a group of beagles going hunting. But is there any hunting ground in Penang where dogs can run freely???

Anyway, good luck!

hi, most of my hunting is around the jungles near Mahang and Sedim. It's approx. 30km from Kulim.

On penang Island, there are some possibilities for hunting with dogs but more restrictive.

The Beagle pack is just starting. We are starting to train the young puppies of about 4 months old.

Hi Brother,

Long time didn't see you in AST & APBT thread, how is you beagle project doing? How many beagles are you having now?

At last you fix with beagle as lots of crosses done by you before seems not really meets your requirement. hehehe!

One more thing, my nephew ran down a wild boar few weeks ago on the north south highway between serdang and Jawi, reason was because some hunters was hunting besides the oil palm estate and the wild boar ran out in a suddent, the accident cause serious damaged to his new MyVi..., how come they can hunt along the bushes beside the highway? What happen if the bullet accidently shoot the vehicle passing there? Really don't understand how can they do that, it is dangerous... PLUS refused to pay for the car damaged, the hunters ran away right after the accident, the wild boar die (cannot claim from her), he has to claim his own insurance...Crazy We the whole family took 2 weeks to eat the babi... (curry rendang babi hutan) ... now I see babi also feel "Gerri"....Unsure

Ha Ha Ha... you could have sold the babi hutan and perhaps pay for the damage.

Yes, there are lots of small patches of jungle along the highway especially where you said. The hunters should be responsible for the damage though. Worst case scenario is when it causes an accident and somebody gets really hurt or dies.

Authorities specify 500m away from public access but as usual many people will break the law. I never hunt in such areas.

Make a complaint to the Perhilitan and maybe they'll be able to trace the hunters as all hunters are required to report to the nearest police stn. before they start hunting in the area.

I have 7 beagles and 4 beagle + mongrel crosses now being trained. The pure bred beagles lack courage but perhaps they are a bit young now. Will have to see in a few months. They can smell the wild boar's presence very well but will not chase ...yet. Hope hthey will improve with time.

It definitely was a great hunt. We bagged 9 wild boars, 4 medium sized and 4 Big and one small. One of the hunters is getting married next week and we're having wild boar curry, sour sweet curry trotters, and other wild wild wild boar dishes. Looking forward to the feast.

Didn't take the beagles last sunday because we were hunting near kampongs and beagles often deviate from their hunting and end up looking for food in the kitchens of the kampong houses.

Sedim river yes. Not the white water rafting area but near the kampong on the opposite side of the river. The area is called Bukit Rawa. Plenty of wild boars as there are several tigers roaming the hills so it's keeping the wild boars from going back up the hills.

Hi,

Last Sunday's hunt was good. Bagged 7 and I was lucky to have shot 3 myself.

It has been difficult to sell boar meat in the recent months so consequently we have been limiting our bag. I believe that the general public is afraid to consume pork of any kind for fear of hormones and antibiotics used in the feed of domestic pigs.

We sell boneless(with skin - cleaned) boar meat at Rm6.50 per kg. Wholesale at about Rm 4.50 depending on the amount. So if a big pig. about 100kgs. is shot in the head, then the yeild is about 45kg of meat at Rm 6.50 retail or less wholesale.

It is not easy to get the boar in the head everytime so there is loss from meat spoiled by bullet wounds. This can sometimes be quite a lot.

I do not know many hunters from KL, and there are many hunters in Selangor/KL. Mind you, many are not regulars. Some hunt or get a hunting license just to keep a gun.

Technically, the only mammal allowed to be hunted all year is the wild boar. Sometimes the season opens for Kijang and Rusa but that has been closed in many states for many years.

I would not encourage the shooting of a Tiger, they are majestic and not many around. The malay kampung folk do kill a few every year because the chinese will always pay a good price for a full grown tiger. Usually no less than Rm20,000 as every part can be used for primitive beliefs. For this reason, malay kampung folk get eaten up by tigers in exchange !

I've never seen a tiger in the wild but seen many footprints. Gunung Inas, behind Sedim usually has tiger pug marks. Elephants are quite common too, especially their dung, about 3 times the size of a buffalo's or 6 time that of a cow! That's a lot of shit !

Nobody accidentally shoots a tiger...that's bullshit if it is reported ! Tigers will keep away from people so much so that people hunting tigers have to be very careful of the wind direction, sounds they make etc. Only a sick tiger will approach or attack a person, and that's self protection.

Hi Peng Yu...

Wow! Thats cool... A good lession on hunting.

A tiger can sell for RM20K in the black market...? Huh! thats a large sum... How can these people do that... tiger is a protected animal globally. But what about wild cat (kucing batu), black leopard (as one of my indian friend told me that he personally saw somebody from the kampung showing photo to him and wanted to sell these wild animal alive) If these can protected species, can the rangers do something on it? I have been to Kuala Gula 2 to 3 years back and saw people is selling some birds (migrating birds) at the pasar malam... Wah Lau eh! they seems like got license doing that...

Anyway... which part of penang are you staying? I'm staying at Cheaseman Road... wish can meet up with you and some of the forum members from penang to share with us your hunting experience...

Have a great day brother...

Hi,

I'm not far from Cheeseman road, near the GH, opposite Island Hospital, behind YMCA. There is a Eurasian family that lives in Kennedy rd.(I think) that goes hunting too! Family name - Theseira.

There are many illegal things happening to wildlife in Malaysia. There is nothing much the rangers can do about all this as it is done by friends, relatives etc.... so they turn a blind eye.

Rangers know that tigers are being sold but there is little done to curb that except when they do catch a Chinese middle man who's not able to settle the matter with a suitable sum of Rm. Then it get to the newspapers and courts.

Hi Brother,

I see... I do not know the family you mentioned.., my house is at Thorpe Road... just beside Kennedy Road.

What are the best ways to cook wild boar... as far as I concern, my family only know to cook in Curry Rendang stile..., they told me deep fried with black pepper and Or Tau Yu plus some sugar and bassil leaf added also nice... but I never tried before.

Seems like you go hunting every weekend..., have you ever hunt at Penang Island? I'm sure there are some hunting ground over at the island too. right? I've seen people selling wild boar meet at Air Itam market.

Can you hunt Civet Cat? If you can... there are plenty of civet cat roaming around our taman at night... I guess not less than 20 civet cat at the housing area where I stay. The comes out at night and ran into the ceiling and making noice til my dogs bark none stop...Crazy hehehe! if you can... there will be a hunting ground for you as well, coz you don't need to travel so far.... hahahaha!

It is legal to hunt civets but only with a permit. Don't know how much though. I know there are very many civets around your area, mainly due to the river nearby and all the bamboo clumps and tall old trees. Seen them walking on the wires at night.

Wild boar in any curry is good. The deepfried Thai style is very popular but you'll need strong teeth and jaws. The right type of wild boar, due to age, sex , area, will determine the quality of meat. A good meat will have no bad smell and will not be too tough but probably a little fat.

There are wild boars in Penang and they are being hunted but there are not many. Mostly in difficult areas to hunt. So most of us prefer to go further and avoid accidents too.

Hi Billy,

Glad you still have Ginger. Beagles are quite obstinate but you must always be firm with him. It is very important for you to be the leader of the pack. If ever your dog becomes the leader of the pack then you are in for a hard time.

Read the current issue of the National Geographer..it's about the Dog Whisperer.

Understanding a dog is paramount in the keeping of a dog as a pet. Failure to understand will mean that you become the pet of your dog.

Usually you only have to be tough with your dog a few times and then after that he'll fall into line once he knows that you are the boss.

Yes, I have another litter from another bitch. Hopefully this time I have the colour I want. So far so good but cannot tell until until it changes fur a few times. Only 4 weeks old now. Only one pup confroms to what I have been hoping for.

Yup, he's still stubborn. So, far, he still is. Cant begin to describe what he's destroyed so far, countless ASTRO magazine, my mails, his plastic bowls... oh and he loves to destroy my pots. Plays a lot, contacted "kurap" now, but getting better, starts to hump a lot now, and also, he got ran over once by a car but luckily, nothing broken.
Teaching him obidience is going to be super hard. He knows how to obey commands when the food comes.. thats the only time he is a good boy.
I believe somewhere in this forum someone says that Beagles are very "kuai lan", but for me I think that they are more to "au ban".
Anyway, he's a pic of him now.

Oh well, I'm trying. But you know how this thing is.. we're out for work from 9 - 6 or 8. And when we're not around.. who knows... what kind of havoc he'll create.
And when I'm available for him. The one thing he likes to do is bite at my hands. Is that typical? He's been doing that for a long time. My only solution to this is to play fetch with him when he wants to bite.
When you said that he's thick skinned, no kidding man. He could withstand a lot of punishment, from me.. and still he wont cry. He'll just make his sad face to counter whatever you could dish out to him.
Anyway, that pic was taken 2 or 3 months ago. This is how he is now....
Are you planning on selling your new batch too? as I think my friend is interested too. Do show us some pics of it when they're ready to go.

That is a smart dog you've got. From the looks and the way he holds his head, he's destined to be the boss. His mother is just like that. His mother also bites me when in pain or really annoyed ! Talk about inheritance.

Both parents of your dog were most agressive and dominant so I guess yours got the dominant genes. I cannot judge from the others I've used for hunting, of the same litter as they are amongst bigger and perhaps more aggressive dogs, besides they are younger than the others.

I've now got pups from another bitch but the same father, One female lemon and white only. The others, all females are reserved and I'm keeping one because she's what I've been trying to breed.

I don't know what the outcome of these pups will be as this is the first batch but I guess a little smaller than your dog, temperamant is yet to be seen, probably milder as the bitch is very mild..
