if the book refers to BARF diet then it surely should be here, but if it discusses other issues then you should post it under a new subject line, so that others will find the "right" book easily.

Hi,

my furkids are already on BARF but I would love to learn more about it. Where can I get the book?

It's about time such a book can be found here. When I tell anyone what I'm feeding my dogs they give me a look. Some even ask if it makes my dogs vicious and if they "thirst" for blood.

Even most vets haven't heard of BARF. Unsure

Fantastic, I love to hear that someone else in Malaysia is not only following this natural way of feeding a dog but also wants to learn more about it.

�Switching to Raw� is more a practical guide on preparation and feeding schedule, but I don�t know if the book is available in Malaysia � I got it in the USA.

�Give your dog a bone� is probably one of the best books when you want to learn more about BARF and its benefits for the dog � all from the vet point of view.

Search for BARF in this forum & look up threads by surchinmy and PSD. QUite a few ppl feeding barf but every1's quiet.

I guess that most of them don't like to discuss openly.

Understandably, it is a difficult decision. The meat has to be fresh and that is already a challenge here in Malaysia. The meaty bones, the lean meat, the veggies and the offal should be free of any pesticides, hormones or antibiotics, and that is another difficulty to find and if you can find it, then it is costly.

Most of the dog owners are having to live on a tight budget and if you don't then you are lucky (and it would be rude to show that to others openly, right?). All of us have to survive a less dog friendly environment and last but not least have to go to work for a living and that for long hours daily.

Not much time left for the search of the above stated quality food and not much time left to learn about the BARF diet.

We could certainly organize all the BARF feeding dog lovers to join forces in hunting the best deals, quality farmers, etc.

Maybe, we could issue a new thread in the Poll section to find out if other dog owners are interested?

u hv a point there...but...it didn't feel so back then coz most ppl seem to be interested..could b just me.

Personally, I decided to feed BARF because the risk with kibbles is to high (and the cost for the vet) with to much stinky poop in the garden and the ever present risk of bloat.

With reference to all the previous posts, it was opinion sharing and exchange of personal experiences.

Anyone tried to compile orders from several members? Anyone negotiated bulk order prices for meat and/or veggies? Anyone tried to establish supply contract?

I try on my very personal small scale by buying in larger quantities and freeze the food packed in daily portions.

It might not be the healthiest way to feed my dog but it is certainly better then any kibble food ever could be and it is fast, easy and manageable. My kitchen gets �dirty� every fortnight only.

Although im feeding my dogs with Canidae kibbles now, but im very intersted abt BARF formula, i might not able to feed them frequently but once a while i hope i can provide them with that.

Do u mind to provide ur own dog's timetables/schedules of eating wat daily? Thanks. Smile

Well, this I did in the "nutrition" postings.
Personally, I would NOT switch once in a while. The reason, the switch in food might cause loose poop and similar reaction. Switching should be done gratually, same as you would do when switching from one kibble food to another. One day fasting and then introduce the new food works for most dogs, but owners might have a problem with this. Wink

fasting is the most powerful tool in health care. It works perfectly well with everyone. The clear advantage is that you will see the dogs reaction on the new diet without any mess. Secondly, your dog will be less hesitating to try any new food when he went thru a day without any food.

Yes, seen all. I guess that all my trips to Holland would total to more then a year in Holland and I used weekends, days with less work to visit the places. But business focus did shift and my last trip to Holland was long time ago.

What are you doing there? Are you Dutch or a lucky Malaysian who found a job in Holland?

I am dutch, and lucky enough to go and live in Malaysia end of the year.

I am a housewife, married, and I fill up my time with my dog and horses, and my house of course Wink

the horses are not mine, but from a riding school near our house.

I clean the stables and I do riding.

what kind of work are you doing?

If I understand you correctly then you plan to come to Malaysia after your hubby�s assignment is over. Not a bad idea. They have a program called �Malaysia my second home� and you could enjoy your early retirement here.

I love the way of living of the east coast, when you want excitement, jump into your car and drive to KL, with the new highway, only 2 hours away.....OK a little bit more, but it's fast driving.

JB is a nice town too, next to Singapore, I do come a lot of times in JB.

My daughter is living in S'pore, with husband and kid, so I travel by bus from Kuantan and stop in JB.

Only the border is a crime, last time the bus driver went away into S'pore, and he left me at the border......Idiot Mad

to go with my car is not an option, I have a town car....a Kencil Cool

and with that car into S'pore....no way Tongue

Nope, I was in the power business; hence, worked at Paka Powerstation and I had a house in Kerteh. I went to Kuantan for nightlife and food.

Those days no highway to KL and it was dangerous and took 7 hours. We used to take flight instead (MAS or Pelangi).

JB is so close to S�pore but I am going more often to KL then to S�pore.

I do not like the hassle at the border; hence, do go when I have to only. I drive on my own when going for shopping or small entertainment, all other times my driver will take care.

where did you go? BoomBoom, or at the Hyatt....

I know the border Sing/JB is terrible, but I have to do it, to see my kids.

and lucky you to have a driver......but I don't mind to drive by myself.

how long does it take to go from JB to KL?

the next time I fly to Malaysia, I go to JB.

I bring my dog to the quarantain station at KLIA, and after that I will take the plane, or I take the bus to go to JB, my daughter pick me up from there, Than I know I will cross the border Unsure

I stay for a couple of days and on my way back I pick up my dog.
