Against the law to fetch furkid in Car??!!! Can't Post

Hi All,

Something happened last night which got me really mad!!

My furkid (Scruffy) and I went out for dinner together as usual last night. And as we were returning home, there was a police road block. The police stopped me and told me that it is an offence to travel with a dog in the car!!! After I questioned him, he said that dogs can only travel in a car if they are caged up. It thought that was a whole load of bull ****. Scruffy is a very well behaved dog and when he is in the car, he just lie down in the passenger seat quietly. Even though I just got him like 3 weeks back, he has become like a son to me and I would never dream of ever caging him up. After all he is not even a big dog. He is a miniature schnauzer mix cocker spaniel and only 5 months old so he is not very big as you can all imagine. So I told him if he wants to give me a summon then go ahead. In the end he said give me chance and ask me to drive away. My opinion is that he is just hoping for “duit kopi” and when he saw that I was not about to give him, asked me to drive away. But that is just my personal opinion.

So I was just wondering if anyone of you have faced the same problem before. Even better still if there is a policeman among the members who can help me shed some light on this regulation which I have never heard of before.

I am pretty sure that it is not against the law. I travel with my dog all the time. Sometimes encounter road-block but they never want to summon me or anything. I think your hunch is right. They just want some duit kopi & when they reliase that you not gonna give any, they will let you pass. Next time, just tell them it's not a dog....it's a pig that looks like a dog. Then ask 'are you a dog???'
finally..... khoo262 has come back to puppy.com

Muahahahah!!! You are really funny and that's a good idea.

Can we start a poll to see how many people actually travel with their furkids in their car without a cage? I think that it is a normal practice to bring our furkids out in the car without a cage right?

Anyone has any idea what to do about this kinda situation? I dont want to be harrassed everytime I bring Scruffy out. And the thing is where I stay (Bukit OUG) there are many police road blocks.

So obvious they only want duit kopi. Ask them to show you where the law says that the dog must caged up in a car. Don't think even overseas they impose such a rule. I know you are suppose to cage (or recommended) your dog up if you are driving a pickup with the dog at the back of the truck

I travel with my 2 rotties all the time. I don't think any sane policeman will stop me.

I think the police man was trying his luck for a bribe. If it happens again, do what you did again - tell the policeman that you'll take the summons. In the summons there has to be info about what so-called "law" you've broken. Obviously you've not broken the law so he can't summon you. But be polite or he may get spiteful and find some other excuse to summon you for. If you are rude to him, he can try and get you for being "abusive".

Incidentally, it is not safe for your dog to travel in the car unrestrained. Do you know you can get a seat belt for your dog? It is a harness-like device that your dog wears through which you pull the car seat belt. If you brake sharply, the car seat belt will be adapted by the harness to restrain your dog just like your seat belt restrains you.

Good advice on the summons and also the car seat belt. Don't want our precious furkids hurt when we brake, do we?

you should carry 'Nescafe 3 in 1' in your car. Next time, they ask for duit kopi, you can say 'duit kopi tak ada tapi kopi ada' then passed the Nescafe 3 in 1 to them and add 'macam ini encik, encik tambah air panas..... blah,blah,blah...

Dear janthk,

The very large open car park before all the hotels, the big car park above the sewage water treatment plant, and the path areas going towards the mushroom farms to all the abandoned projects.

Nooo... not inside the hotel. He does not like to blackjack or the one-armed bandito!

Thanks for the information. I will try it out and bring Scruffy there. I need to work on getting more exposure for him and let him mix around with more people and other doggies as well.

Right now he is very posessive of me and if I bring him out and disappear from his sight for awhile, he will cause havoc. So I am trying to train him to get use to other people as well.

I am driving around with my dog for over 4 years and we met numerous road blocks. We just had to answer the common question about the breed or had a policemen to scared to come closer to the window. Never ever, anyone said anything about the dog in the car or any ban on it.

To use the special harness (for your dog) which fits to the seat belt is advisable as it is advisable for you to wear the seat belt.

Sry but i've nvr experienced it b4.

It's actually unfair bcs on the dog fun day, i saw many of the dog owners brought theur dogs out from the cars without cages. I also happen to bring sid sid without cage in it.

We can tell the police in their face that it's unfair and ceritakan what happen. Dogs which are too big dont need to be caged bcs it can fit the passenger seat. Little dogs can fit inside the pasenger seat w/o cage bcs the dog is very well-behaved

You are lucky cause you have a big dog and the police are probably scared of it.

However, I am gonna train Scruffy to drool on them. Hopefully that will scare them away. Muahahhaa!!

Smile Good idea. To add-on, why not train him to give a nice “smile” accompanied by a soft growl?

Big dogs have this advantage that they could scare more people then toy breeds could. In case of traffic police - I love it. Cool

Hi Janthk,

Next time if it happens again, just jot down the police ID/staff/IC no. & name; so that u could report him for trying to bribe/ask for duit kopi.MadFrown

I always bring my godson (a Shih Tzu) along when I need to go get something, especially to the fruit stall every Saturday.Wink I even brought him along to the Imigration Dept. at Subang (Terminal 2) 2 mths back when my parents went to collect their passport. Of cos v did not go in, just wait at the parking area while getting his morning sun.Frown

See the thing is I dont have prove that he wanted a bribe as he did not ask for anything. I asume that he was waiting for a bribe cause I dont think that there is actually a law set against carrying dogs in car.

That's why I wanted to find out for sure to see if there is anything in our Malaysian law which actually states it is illegal to carry dog in car without a cage. I tried looking on line but am not able to locate any. So if you do know anyone who is actually a lawyer then do try and find out lah.

I am sure everyone in this forum would also like to know for sure and it would be something really handy to have around if I am ever stopped by that stupid pig again.
