Hmm.........mayb u can try holding some treats in your hand and command it to sit. If it sucessfully do, then u give him a praise + treat. As for bitting, i will buy some toys for my shih tzu to bite (to change its attention).

As for the toy... i have purchase a small ball with a bell in it... everything it chase the bell ball, it keep on barking which is annoying when it is 3am in the morning.

What is the toy that you have purchase or can recommended?

I'm using Iams Puppy biscuit (yellow box) as treat. My shih tzu really like it. I guess u can it in may petsop. As for the toys, u need to discipline him. I did not give the toy to him the times coz this will eventually make him easily boring with the new toy. Usually i will keep the toy when it at night.

i break the biscuit into half. bcs i got 2 dogs, so i feed the other half to other dogs..

if you only have 1 dog, then what you can do is, to break all the biscuit in 2, and to feed each time 1 piece.

hey, yuinhun ask me to try the biscuit.. it is delicious wor...

too bad the biscuit run out of stock.. i went to several places, can't find the biscuit..

Another question how large is your dog now? Mine is just 28 CM (3 months)....is this normal?

I buy before the Pedigree Tasty Bone b4 for my shih tzu. It is really hard n my shih tzu take a hard time to finish it. The Iams biscuit usually available at et where they sell alot of Eukanuba dog food. If u can't find that biscuit, mayb u can try the milky stick(orange color pack, not Pedigree brand!). My shih tzu loves it also.

totally agree! Pedigree tatsy bone really hard for my dog... but it is good as the time it take to chew can save my time to do other thing like play my ps2. It take around 15 minutes to get one done ^_^

milky stick? Can you tell me the exact brand? can i import it? One of my dog vet told me to get a dog jerk for it to chew on.... is it ok?

Thx for your help.

But my doggy still need alot of training on sitting... the only thing it know how to do is sleep on its back and wait for me to tickle it.

try making your own treats?

we make our own...very easy and tasty too.

get some chicken breast. cut it into small strips. then steam it and flatten it with a spoon...and then bake it for 180C for 15-30 minutes...depending on your microwave or oven.

the left over juice (stock) from the steaming can be used to make furkid some soup or mixed with his food for some extra yummy factor.

Re: [entrapnet] Shih Tze training on sitting [In reply to] Can't Post

what was recommended is home made. no preservatives and no coloring. i leave it to your best judgement as to which is better..."branded" laced with colorings and lots of flour (I have to admit that these treats are convenient and taste yummy - almost savoury if you have tried it) or something home made which is human grade (the same chicken you buy for home cooked food for humans).

shih tzus can sometimes be picky eaters. i used to beg shalom to eat...literally "pls eat girl". we experimented wth so many brands and in the end resorted to home cooked and barf. these days, feeding is breezy...and vet certifies her good and healthy...no skin prob etc.

if your vet says feed him more (i assume he's probably a little under weight), you can incorporate healthy treats and ask your vet for some multivitamins as well.

how's the sitting coming along? we can get shalom to sit properly for a short while only...then she'll just plonk onto her down position (lazy girl)...unlike her other cher-chers and ko-kos who stay sitted until we give the release command....sigh.....

The sitting work great with the threat... that's why i plan to get more type of threat to reward it (Benji).

My dog look so fatty except when i hold it on its upper part. Maybe it is too active.

I'll try to get my maid to cook as you teached. You seem to know hokkien. Are you from Penang/Ipoh?

haha..i speak colorful languages...but am a hokkien...diluted one. lahir johor but origins of penang.

hmm, try the cooking on your own..and whilst cooking let benji be with you. you'll be amazed that benji can do wonders while seeing you cook for him...it's bonding time for furkids and i...that's why i have decided to cook or give them barf whereby they see me prepare. while waiting for food to thaw or cook, we play...do homework etc.

lucky benji...get treats for tricks...we don't do that with the furkids all the time...we want them to do out of love...and when they get treats too..its what we can bonus time.

haha...sakit hati when he does that right?

but let him be. he won't starve himself to death....pver time he will realise that either he eats or he feels the hunger pangs (and pains).

try home cooked food...you'll overcome the pickiness quite easily. our pickiest senior girl crackers..serve her with chicken and vegie and rice cooked in lots of water...that you have solid at the bottom of the bowl and soup on top..wow..habis makan bersih bersih...no need to wash her bowl liao!Frown

eeee... ok lo.... i only know how to cook instant noodles only... i hope i can successfully do as you instructed.

Anyway, Benji turn me into slave. Every time it lazy to eat... it will look at me and stay on its back... wait for me to feed "euro puppy bite" directly into its mouth... is this normal or should i stop this?

My dog love to sleep most of the time or follow you like a shadow... is this normal? should i keep it in air coordinate all day or should i put it half-half (aircon and fan)? The dog seem to like air con but will turn into lazy after awhile (sleep and alot of sleep)....

aha...the manja hand feeding....we normally melt when they give us those pitiful looks. but really its quite a bad idea to hand feed. quit doing so and let benji learn to eat on his own. once he's hungry he will learn to eat on his own, coz he'll realise that mummy isn't going to feed me..so i better eat least i starve.

shalom is like a shadow too..everywhere i go she would follow...even if it is shower session...its a shih tzu trait in a way.

air con or fan...i leave the fan on for circulation. on a personal note i avoid as much air con as possible (despite me fearing heat more than anything) for 2 reasons. ! - get too used to air con when we all go out to non air con places (like when we become daddy & gang's cheerleaders...we suffer lor) and 2 - don't want any more dry and irritated skin.

sleeping...dogs can sleep an average of 11 hours a day. my westie colby and dog-dog (lazy perhaps) can sleep upto 15 hours a day! so sleeping is actually ok. but you acn keep benji stimulated rather than sleep coz nothing to do by giving him some toys etc. we entertain teh furkids with simple toys such as mineral water bottle that they toss and toss....plush toys, tennis balls etc. a kong would be a good idea. hide the food in the kong and they'll self entertain to try to irritate the kong till teh treat falls out. of course when they are tired they will sleep. and when refreshed continue entertaining themselves with the toys.

Anyway, i tried to stop feeding it but it keep on jumping on my lap with its sad look.

Can we give thread for fun without calling it to do any trick? The sitting stuff really work 50%. When its mood is bad... it won't obey....

I watch a movie called "Quill"... they say we shouldn't scold our puppy as it is not good for training and they provide the dog with a lot of toys.... should that be the case?

wahaha...blaack wor...haha bet you can't beat my 1st attempt in baking....hardened muffin that is even harder than stones..dropped also cannot break!

you can scold a puppy...but it all depends how. don't scold for past acts that you did not see him do. scold appropriately eg when he bites someone...scold him immediately.

treats can be given but watch your limit coz too much is extra calories...too much also encourages picky eaters ie they only want to eat treats rager than their proper kibbles or barf or home cooked food.

hmmm why black color? steam first till cooked...then bake 160-180C for 10-20 minutes depending on oven..not 2 hours! try again. where are you from?
