Re: [French Bulldog] French Bulldog ??!? [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear all,

I really like this breed and make some reading about the FD. BTY, anyone know about any reliable breeder in Malaysia?

So for for the dog show that i attended, I only happen to see 1 FD. Not very nice though. But I saw a couple walking a pair of FB in the Taman in SS2. So far this is the most beautiful FB I see, but I can't manage to talk to them. Any one know them? It's a male and female FD, quite nice. Hope they do breed them.

Beside that, any advice for me before getting a FB?

My friend introduce me to one breeder in Kajang, claiming that he will have a litter in Disember. Went to see his dog this morning. The kennel is not that well maintained and the male and female FB is about 6+ years old. Isn't that the dogs are a bit too old to use for breeding?
Kindly advise.......

BTY, they said they are selling about RM1600.00

Re: [sweekay] French Bulldog ??!? [In reply to] Can't Post

dear swee kay,

nice to meet you here.

before putting down your purchase, please visit my post in the Bulldog Station, which I stated down my humble view that the factors to be consider before getting a english or french bulldog.

Then you have to decided if this is the breed that you suit the most. Yes, your lifestyle have to suit the frenchie, not for the frenchie to adjust his breed charectoristic to yours. If you want a dog that will go out for a long distance of jogging with you; if you want a dog that will guard the house; if you want a dog that will most of the time listen to your command; if you want a dog that are relatively healthy... then you don't want a frenchie.

Be that as it may, the frenchie is a breed that worth having ity as a family member. Not all frenchie have serious health problem, it depends on the amount of homework that you have done. I wont encourage ppl to get bulldog breed from the petshop. It is essential for potential owner to look at both the dam and sire, becouse most common health problem suffered by bulldog is inherited.

Further, do not let your bulldog stay outdoor. The can't servive from the heat and most importantly, they will get stolen by some low life. They love ppl and they can't guard.

Well, bulldog, unlike other breed, is expensive. Most of the breed in Malaysia w/out MKA costs less than 1K. For frenchie, the price w/out MKA is not unreasonable, but as i said earlier, you MUST have a look of the parents.

Re: [sweekay] French Bulldog ??!? [In reply to] Can't Post

Further to my earlier post, please note that there is certain defective that is quite common in our local breeding stock.

The most common type is the defective tail. A lot of our local frenchie has a ‘hi-set’ tail. Frenchie tail should be either short and undock, or screwed (Most of the hi-set tail came from a same breeding stock from Selangor).

Also, certain pied colour Frenchie having the so called “hidden spot”, where the brindle colour is not properly define.

The most common frenchie in Malaysia is brindle. And if you want to test the breeder if he really bred for the betterment of this breed, ask him what colour that he registered his litter. I believe that he will tell you: BLACK or BLACK and WHITE. All this is not he correct colour definition for Frenchie, and please stay away from this type of breeder.

Having said that, if you just want a pet dog, the abovementioned defective is not fatal, so long as it has been properly breed with correct temperament that what a frenchie should have.

I totally agree with the above points EXCEPT the last point. Frenchie can be very healthy breed with very little problem that is associated with some other breed. Frenchie has less breathing problem (due to elongated soft palete and small nostril) oompared to English Bulldog. Frenchie, especially the brindle type has no major skin problem compared to some furry white breed. Frenchie is strong and has no risk of breaking their leg or tail easily like the Italian Greyhound.
And best of all, Frenchie definitely have no "Barking Syndrome" which will caused so much noise pollution at home. It really depends on the line of frenchie that they come from.
But due to the many irresponsible breeders, many frenchie with genetic defects are bred, and are selling them cheap. This resulted in many frenchies to be unhealthy (such as the soft pallate problem) and gives people a wrong impression of the breed. I have personally met a few which I think is not in perfect health.
To me, frenchie is one of the best breed of companion to be kept if you are able to shower them with tender loving care. I have enjoyed every moment that I have with my cola boy !!!
A good frenchie is definitely not cheap. you can go online to the frenchie website, and each one cost easily US$3,000.
But I think it is really appropriate to see such concern reminder from the member here for whoever that intend to get a frenchie. I will suggest prospective buyer be very careful when you choose your frenchie, if possible, do a check with the vet before you put the money down.

Fianlly, greetings from Cola of Singapore !!

in my opinion, if the breeder does not kept his farm properly, it shows something is missing.
but you should still go down and take a look a the puppy yourself before deciding. Best is to request the chosen puppy to be examined by a vet before paying him. A problematic frenchie will cost you a bomb in vet fees, and you may be paying another RM1600 topay for his medical bills.
Nevertheless, dont be scared away, frenchie is one of the best breedof dog I have seen, 9/10 !!!

Re: [ev960d] French Bulldog ??!? [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Ev960d,

Hehe, you have your point. But should I put it this way. Frenchie are prone to certain health problem as compare to other breed. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible for one to breed a perfect dog in all confirmation, temperament and health. A show frenchie will have a flat face just like bullie, which will made them prone to breathing problem. As for skin problem, most bulldog type are prone to demodex mites. Other breed rarely suffer from this type of skin problem, because their immune system will control the amount of mites in the body. Yes, not all bulldog type suffer from this problem, but chances that they having this skin problem is higher than other breed. Further, in Asia, our dog breeding programs are still at the beginner stage. To decide which pedigree carried a defective genetic involve a through study for a lot of generation because certain gen are recessive and it will only shows the sign if the mating is not done properly.

I understand that a lot of books claim that frenchie is a easy taking care breed. Breeder claims that frenchie Hasve minimal health problem. But try to talk with other reputable breeder and responsible owner, they will warn you about the matters that you need to consider. I am not discouraging people having frenchie. N fact, I started off with one and I end up with two. If possible, the more the merrier. But just like any other breed, one need to take serious consideration before getting a dog. My frends told my that his college, who use to keep a frenchie, end up giving her dog in the animal shelter because to vet bills and the time taking care of the frenchie.

Let me put it this way, french bulldog is truly a joy to have. A proper breed frenchie has can save you a lot of future vet bill, but this breed, as compare to other breed, is still relatively prone to certain inherited health problem.

Re: [sweekay] French Bulldog ??!? [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Swee Kay,

I have a pair of male and female, but I do not breed them because at this moment I don’t feel competent and knowledgeable to do the breeding. There are still A LOT of things that I think I should learn before I decided to mate them. Breeding, if doing it right, is not a simple task, especially when you want to breed for the betterment of this breed.

At this moment, there are 2 breeder in Selangor who breed frenchie. This is for your information and I am not referring you to them as I am not convince of their way and objective of breeding frenchie. They are the commercial breeder and please do not expect they can give you constructive advice for this breed. All the members in this forum is willing to share their experience of frenchie with you and please do not hesitate to ask should you have any quarries.

Be that as it may, this is your money, your decision and if you decided to do the purchase, it will be your family. My command on the Sri Kembangan breeder is that both the Sire and Dam are too old, and it should not use for breeding. The puppies produced will not be healthy. For the Ampang breeder, I do not meet him personally but I happen to see his puppies. Apart from the defective tail, the puppies looks quite OK as compare to the Sri Kembangan breeder. I don’t know about the quality of the puppy, but I understand that he mate the dogs every time when the bitch is in heat. This should not be the case as the dam should be rested for every alternate period and should not be use for breeding at the most, 5 years old. If I am not mistaken, Sclong has a puppy from the ampang breeder and he is in a better position to advise.

The choice is limited here in Malaysia and to be frank, except you are willing to import one, sometimes your luck is quite important for you to get a healthy frenchie in Malaysia. Please do not listen to the promise from the breeder/pet shop (esp those with zero knowledge). A pet shop asst. used to told me that bulldog makes perfect guard dog. Trust your own eyes and the knowledge you have regarding this breed.

The market price for frenchie in Malaysia with MKA certificate is around RM1400-1800.

Hello,

The best Frenchie breeder in Malaysia is in Penang. You can get the contact in the latest Berita Anjing. His line is from NZ famous Valryk line.

Although I dont have one but I know a bit about this breed. I use to breed Boston Terriers but have since stop that completely.

Cheers and hope u find a good frenchie breeder.....and btw i have no relationship with this breeder.
