Hi Li Ping,

Hehehe for the theraphy dog...I would think Belle (my GR) will do a MUCH MUCH MUCH better job than my little pink nose monkey.....she is way too friendly like what u had just mentioned.

Bosco is a bit no no for this job.....becoz he know how to turnleft bite and turn right lick.....heheheheh

hi, count me in if you are organising anything like this over the week end. I will surely join you with my dogs. Want the others to love my dogs too.....and to learn the joy of having them.

hi hi.. so glad to see u online again... Tongue

i think it would be great!!!.. maybe we could organise a small outing with the children from a home or watever n have kids.... there r quite alot of children shelters these days...

i know of one programme where they have kids fr diff homes once a month at their premise in kl and have activities for the kids...its called yellow house.....but their main theme is arts and children. here's one of their activities:
www.mercy.org.my/cgi-bin/pitstop.pl?req=articles&id=106

maybe we can get some dogs to go there and play with them and have them draw these cuddly frens... i can ask if anyone is interested to make this work...

or we can always contact other shelter homes to visit and bring some smiles...

it'll be a good experience for all of us... it has been awhile since puppy.com had any events anyway...

Hi...

oh yeah, obviously i'm bias Blush

PP == Service Dog ?

It depend on your defination actually, if u think service dog is dog provides that service to the humanity, then PP is under service dog.

But some states especially in US and other western countries, Service Dogs are only belong to the uniform body only. Then in this case no loh....

hi amy

sure feels great to be back (alive).

first issue to consider i suppose is to look for non-muslims for such activities. i don't suppose malay kids will fancy playing with our dogs...

i love the idea of drawing and activities like that. mm, have to plan out. maybe we could start out by looking for a list or something and start calling out and ask... see what's the feedback.

chris : yea of course the more the merrier, let's hope we can make something happen.

There is one home for the aged run by the St. Francis Xavier Church....if i am not mistaken the home is in cheras...their phone number is 91311464.

Hi, bonn, you got very nice dog...belle and skye...wow...trying to mate them????

haha.. yes.. glad to see you here again! Cool

i do agree it has to be a non-muslim activity. I think there r non-muslim shelters. Why not we all dig around for a few of those homes and contact them?? It can be for the kids, the elderly, handicapped homes. I will try to get a list ... is this a puppy.com activity or something like a small gathering thing??

as for the yellow house, i'd have to check... i guess we can have both types of activities....

one question.. what do we intend to do with ourselves n our dogs at the shelters other than let the kids play with them?? any sort of programme or educational activity??

hi cris

yea old folks home are certainly not to be missed as well. but before we take action to head to such places, we really must be careful with our dogs and make sure their really really gentle. i worry an over-friendly dog (for instance, constant jumping on ppl) might cause accidents.

so for now i suppose the first target should be children first. children are more flexible and curious than the senior citizens.. let's see how's the response and all. if things does work out, there always is time to proceed further :)

(Q) Why don't blind people go sky diving?

(A) Because it scares the hell out of their dogs (unless they have REALLY strong nerves...Ha HA HA!Sly)

In reply to your question at the beginning of this thread about the differences between service dogs, let me tell you a little story.

This guy I met turned up at the place we train security dogs with a really good German Shepherd. This dogs pedigree was only mediocre, but he had what it takes - tonnes of prey drive and aggression and strong nerves. I asked him where he got the dog from. It had been trained by the customs department as a bomb detection dog, but had failed.

Puzzled, I asked him why?

Apparently when training, this dog would find explosives no matter where they were hidden, the only problem was that they couldn't stop him from shaking the hell out of the bomb when he found it!! Lucky he never found a real bomb!!!!Smile

Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage runs thru it. Handler trust thru skilfull handling and genetics stabilizes the dog when the team is faced with extreme unexpected stress. The experiences of the team born out of training realistic scenarios will help pull them thru.

The issues of heights and elements are basically addressed in the dog's early foundation work (as a puppy). When properly done at early stages, it vastly reduces the stress in future real life situations, the likes of parachuting or dropping a dog anywhere, whether to track a criminal or search and rescue missions.
