Oh...I din know that you aren't allowed to bring dog there beside joining the event there... I got this news from a friend and she was telling me that she might bring her dog there too...

I was thinking of bringing Whisky out jalan jalan as I think he bored at home. I want to socialize him more with other dogs...Smile

Hi junecheah,

Smile Not a place to jalan jalan as it will be very crowded during weekends. Best thing to do is to register your Whisky to take part in the competition if you're still interested. Entry fee is cheap and can get free gift too if you're a participant.

As dpelican said, you need to enter the mall via designated parking bay if you bring your dog there. You can register your dog on that day itself but you won't get any free gift.

Don't think I'm interested. That place is too crowded for me. I prefer to bring my doggies for jungle trekking. Too bad...can't join those who are going to that bukit gasing tomorrow.

Hi dmax and junecheah and any other interested MIPE participants,

I wrote to the organiser with the question of whether bringing dogs into MIPE is allowed or not. I got 2 replies from 2 nice ladies [Thanks Alicia and Beatrice if you happen to read this]

These are their replies:-

Dear Sam,

You can bring your dog, but you have to register him/her at the dog registration counter. The registration is basically for the Dog Carnival. If you don't feel confident about your dog's abilities in the ring, you can always join the best owner category. It is RM 15 per dog per category. But remember, you can only come into the exhibition hall through the Level P1 or P2, Zone B lifts and you are not allowed to bring your dog out to the mall.

For any other enquires, please visit our website www.mipe.com.my or call us at 03-7804 0322.

Cheers,

Alicia Mak

Assistant Editor

Kombinasi Pasifik (M) Sdn Bhd

Mid Valley does not allow pets to be brought in during teh expo, but if you have dogs and woudl like to come in with your dogs , you may register as a participant in the Dog Carnival which is held on Saturday and Sunday . Use teh lift in parking bay B22 or B23 on level P1 or P2 of Zone B, Mid Valley MegaMall. Dogs are only confined to Hall 1 by the way.

Cheers and see you at MIPE 2004!!!!!

Re: [junecheah] [junecheah] MIPE 2004 [In reply to] Can't Post

No problem....you're most welcome........Yeah, if you've been to the previous MIPEs before, they are quite good, although a bit crowdy at times....I think it's quite worth it since there are lots of freebies to pick up. If the entrance fee is the same and has not changed (hopefully), then should be RM5/pax. The year before last was free. Last year, they started charging entrance fee. Frown For sure you can pick up something from Eukanuba and Hill's booths. The other booths, not so sure. I know every year, the freebies gets lesser and lesser.Frown

I'm a bit surprised to see MIPE in MidValley this year. Previous years they were always at Mines, which was much bigger and easier to walk around, I guess not so crowded. But I'm always shocked at the treatment they extend to the poor bunnies at the petting enclosure. The kids just do not know how to handle them, throwing them around like balls. Stupid parents just stood there and amazed at how 'clever' their stupid kids are. Stupid attendants also never inform participants how to handle bunnies.....Mad standing around lazily and watch.....and also not to mention the poor duckling and chicks that got the stress of their life with kids chasing them around.....Mad....

Oh well, hope you enjoy yourself there and don't let my complaints ruin your experience. Wink

P.S. Better continue to work on that biting part.......good luck!!

Hey, I think i been to MIPE before. I went to Mines one and it was very big. That time, they already started to charge entrance fee of RM 8/pax. I haven't to the one in Midvalley, so dunno how it's like.

Ya, they do give alot of freebies..

Don't worry, you won't ruin my enjoyment there as I love pets. I actually grew up with dogs as my family is a great dog lover. I used to have lots of pets like cats, rabbits and hamster. But Whisky is my first fully owned dog and a pure breed. My parents normally adopt puppy mongrels and feed them till they die of old age. My previous dog pass away last year at the age of 15 yrs. Now my parents are taking care of new mongrel with looks exactly like GSD. I guess the father was a GSD.

Are you going this coming MIPE?

Hello [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all

Am new to the forum but am the proud owner of a 6 months old JRT. Details as follows:

OWNER / Name of Dog / D.O.B. / Gender / Coat / Colour / Location

Richard912 / JoJo / September 2003 / Female / Smooth / Tricolor(White,Tan,Black) / TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

JoJo just turned 6 months and I must say that she is still quite a handfull at home. Last shot expected this coming weekend and thereafter, can bring her out to socialise more.

Toilet training - I guess she is about 90% there with the off-shot 10% outside the designated areas (especially when she throws a tantrum!!)

Tricks - Has learnt to sit but won't stay sitted for long (what to expect? Still a kid right?)

Bad habits -

Likes to BITE!!! But soon as a "No Bite" is barked at her, she'll change it to a lick. Has a tendency to nip you for attention too!! Any tips on how to reduce her biting?? Have considered spraying bitter lemon on our hands to prevent her biting..

Loves to lick face and "french kiss"... she's too affectionate a JRT!! Any suggestions?

Alas, she has been shedding like crazy!! Will this stop in time to come? What can be done?

Hi Richard,

Welcome to this JRT Zone!!! My JRT has the same name as yours. Smile Where did you get her?

Not bad eh....already toilet trained at the age of 6 months. Nipping? Try scolding first...otherwise has to resort to other methods like pinching the lips or letting her bite her own lips or shoving her leg into her mouth. Whatever method, just be consistent on one.

Yah..they like "french kiss" even the male.

I read somewhere that smooth coat tends to shed more than the rough coat. I should think it is normal for your JoJo to shed. If you think she sheds excessively, then better take her to see the vet.

Hey, do update us on her progress.

Re: [junecheah] [junecheah] MIPE 2004 [In reply to] Can't Post

We'll love to go but we'll have to see how it goes because we need to go back to Ipoh again this weekend so may not be able to go to MIPE 2004.

The previous MIPE used to be open to trade visitors. So what we do is we'll register ourselves as pet shop owners. Just make up some name. They will ask for name card and we'll always say it has run out. So we've been going to previous MIPE for free. Until last year when they got rid of trade visitors (ie. all visitors must pay). So we ended having to pay RM5/pax. Hmm...don't remember paying RM8/pax for entrance fee. Do enjoy yourself at MIPE 2004. Take care.

Hi Richard,

Welcome.. JRT gang is really increasing.. It seems like your Jojo is very obedient. My whisky is 4 1/2 months. He only pee and poo inside his cage and sometimes when we let him go out to the grass area.
Whisky only knows how to sit when he sees his biscuit. Other than that, no food no work.

Biting part... tell me about it. He is biting everyone at home like his personal pork chop. We tried lots of way but still the same. I guess he going through teething problem.I did bought a type of spray that prevent your dog from biting you. It works for Whisky, he runs when he smell it but not using that often as I myself feel that it's smelly too.Smile

Re: [dmax] Hello [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow DMax

I just realized from looking at the list that you are the proud owner of THREE JRTs!!! One is oredi a hand full but 3??! Btw, CoCo was the name used on my previous dog of 11 years. She was a Bichon Frise. Had to put her down due to kidney failure *sniff*Unsure

One thing's for sure about my JoJo, she's a real rascaPiratel!!! She knows that my wife is more lenient compared to myself and she really dishes her all the worse..included humping my wife. This is a very clear sign that JoJo thinks she is more dominant than my wife!!!

Lastly, my JoJo has a tendency to pee when she gets excited (us returning home from work, friends visiting). Have read that this is common in JRTs especially females. Anyone else have this problem? How to rectify? We've tried ignoring her during the first 5 minutes hoping she'd be adequately calmed but still no diceCrazy

June

I think my JoJo is not far better from your whisky but I must say you can look forward to improvements on a daily basis. JoJo would only sit when told to do so at mum-mum time initially. But these days, she does it when told. Just have to improve the sit time as she gets impatient sitting and starts up with her jumping until she is told to sit again.

Its an entirely different experience from owning a JRT compared with the Bichon (more well behaved) but I have noticed that JRT can learn VERY FAST!!! Unfortunately, this fast learning ability of theirs extends to both the good AND the badFrown

Re: [richard912] Hello [In reply to] Can't Post

Yah...both my wife and I were so excited when Coco gave birth to 5 puppies. We were contemplating of keeping all of them but we know it was impossible. So we ended up keeping only one puppy i.e. Tubby. It's fun to watch them play with each other everyday. But the down side is when three of them start barking. Their barks are so loud until I wanted to slaughter them. The neighbours' children are no better. They always come and disturb the dogs so much so that the dogs will now bark at them upon seeing them. The postman is also very bad. He will rev up his engine just to irritate the dogs. Once, we saw him shooting the dogs with a big rubber band. Of course, the dogs will bark at him even more lah. We scolded the postman and now he purposely deliver our letters to the neighbour house.

Tubby has the excitement urination problem too but it is not severe. So most of the time, we will pretend not seeing him or greet him when returning home. Jojo has submissive urination problem due to punishment that I had used on him. So now, everytime when I reached home, he will go into hiding. Feel so sorry for him. But nowadays, I try not to scold him but rather encourage him more. He is a real jumper. Those who came and delivered leaflets to our front gate always got a fright when he suddenly jumped. Coco is the smartest but at time can be annoying because of her loud bark.

June,

The jungle trekking is on this coming saturday morning. I'm very keen to join in but cannot since we have made an appointment at the hospital this saturday.

Anyway, we will at bukit kiara in the evening for a walk. We may be bringing Tubby there though that place does not allow dogs.

Hi,

I also just realise that it was this saturday and not on sunday. Maybe we can meet up agin on the next round..

Where is Bukit Kiara? You normally have your evening walk there? Do yo bring your dogs along too. Nowadays, it's very hard to bring dog around as alot of places have the No Pet Allowed thing.. DO you know anywhere in Subang/Sunway or nearby that allowed dog? I have a feeling that my whisky is biting and niping with the aggresive behaviour due to lack of exercise and social activity. So, I wanna bring him out and hope that he can change for the better..Smile

HI Richard

No I don't think they are going to do anything about it. It's kind of pitiful and I think if you try to teach her, she may get even more nervous and wee wee more.

Dmax, I wonder how he can manage so many JRTs they really are a handful these dogs. I tip my hats off to D. I have a kitten at the moment and boy is he rough, bit me on the wrist last night and left puncture marks. I wanted to slaughter him as well.

Re: [gaudygoddess] Poor doggy [In reply to] Can't Post

My wife gets the brunt of JoJo's biting and nipping. She's more cautious when it comes to me becos I am the one who would typically give her a good "wallop" to set her straight. Just last night, she pee-pee in front of our room door just because we were slow in opening it for her. Gave her a couple of twacks on her bum and she was well behaved throughout the night thereafter.

Is it just my JoJo or do any of you find JRTs to be retaliative?? She tends to pee or worst, poo at non-designated areas if things don't go her way.

*New Trick* - JoJo's learnt the "up" command. She'll jump "up" the chair, bed etc. when told. When she's up there, she's started to learn to respond to "call daddy" by making whiny, manja noises.

I think most dogs (and cats) do have this retaliative thing going on. Like they know the meaning of REVENGE.Once one of the cats in my previous home peed on my work bag just because I brought another kitten home

I find JRTs to be super super difficult to discipline. Like they don't have the capability to remember and they are supposed to be one of the most intelligent breeds. Hmmmmmmm

Hi gaudygoddess,

JRT is indeed an intelligent dog. They are hard to discipline is due they are stubborn. They actually know what we are saying, but they just ignore us. They are easily bored so if your training is boring, they will just ignore you... My whisky is very stubborn too. I always call him to come, sometimes response to me but sometime he never. I know that he can listen to me as I saw his ear moves when I call his name. They just stubborn by nature...Smile

Sounds all too familiar. My Jojo will defnitely "come" when there's food or else, it depends on her mood. I know she hears the command (ears twitching) but I guess she just choose to ignore when there's no reward.

She takes to "sit" very well now. As for "hand", she'll give you her hand PLUS her teeth Crazy as well for the time being. Well, time will tell.

All in all, JRTs are intelligent. If you ask me, I think they are too intelligent!!!

Re: [richard912] [junecheah]Retaliative [In reply to] Can't Post

Friends,

Give them some time. They are like kids. If you teach them well while they are young, they will grow up to be fine adults. When they do grow up that time and you look back to this, you will laugh and be wondering how can this cute and fine dog could have been that naughty back then. Have some faith and patience. JRTs are known to test their limits throughout their lifetime, but they are not that stubborn to the extreme. Once they know who's the master, they will be very nice kids. You will see some positive and repeateable results when they reach around 1 year old stage. After that time, it's just keeping each other happy and enjoy each other's companionship. The initial stage is always the toughest.

My Dao Dao is growing to be a fine young lady...Smile
