Re: [dmax] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the info.. will try it on Whisky.

I'm planning to send him for obedience class after he finishes his 3rd jab. I'm taking him to the vet this saturday. I don't think I can make it for the Feb MKA class. Maybe the next one I guess.

We do roll him over and tickle him. Whenever we does that, he will feel itchy and try to bite us. But it's not a fierce type of bite. I guess he is just too playful..Smile

Any of you going for the Obedience/Agility workshop? I'm planning to go but without whisky..

Re: [junecheah] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Hmmm......yeah, the aggression problem seems to be a bit out of hand.

I think you really need to let him know biting is a big 'NO NO'. Don't let him get into the habit of chewing on your fingers or hand even if it's just a playful nip, while you are handling him.

Bearing teeth is a big sign of serious aggression. This may turn into unfortunate, more serious bites when he gets older.

Like dmax has mentioned, try tickling his tummy area. All dogs like belly tickling.

The best option like dmax has suggested, seek professional help - send him to obedience school. MKA at Jalan Gasing, PJ there has some courses you & your bf can take with Whisky.

We do hope this turns out well and do keep us all posted on his progress.

Re: [dpelican] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Whisky is very dominant and aggresive.

We tried saying No and shouting but still biting. I just got my bleeding finger from Whisky yesterday. We realise that he loves to play and he doesn't have limits. Once he play until excited, he will turn very violent like starting to attack you. Luckily, I did bought something from the petshop that help you to prevent your puppy from biting and stay away from thing you don't want him to bite. I spray on my hand and Whisky just runaway...Shocked

I'm planning to bring him for this workshop on this coming saturday as he just got his 3rd jab..but not confirm.. anyone going?

Re: [junecheah] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

I think the spray is just a deterrent and band-aid fix only. The aggression problem will still be there. Looks like he has asserted himself as the master and you being the slave in this master-pet role. More like role reversal. It's common though, but not something you can't solve.

I think the obedience talk should be good. Unfortunately, we will be going back to Ipoh this weekend, so won't be able to make it. Would love to meet up with you. Anyhow, you won't be bringing Whisky too.

So I guess you have to work on the abandoning process, ie. if he gets too aggressive, stops playing with him and ignore him for a while. They (puppies) crave attention so if he knows you don't want to play with him, he'll have no choice but to calm down himself or keep himself occupied. So far, apart from your fingers and limbs, has he destroyed anything yet?

I would recommend calming him also if he gets too excited but I think that will have to be a bit later since he's usually too excited which leads to rough play ('violence') and you'll most likely get bitten before you manage to subdue him.

See how things go but do keep us posted.

P.S. You'll probably have read this before but in case you haven't, check out this link

http://www.terrier.com/advice/aggression.php3

There's a forum there too. But this one is a bit different because, the person who reply is the so called 'guru' and is not another member. And this is purely a JRT forum. Do a search first at the forum, maybe there are other JRT owners that have faced similar problems and the guru has replied. If not, write a new post. The person will be able to give you some free professional advice for Whisky's aggression problem. Let the person knows what you have tried and failed so he/she can advice you on other tips/tricks he/she knows. But do check out the aggression link first. Do check out the rest of the tips/trainings, they are very good.

Thank you!.. thank you! Glad to be in this group Smile

Whisky looked as if he's always up to something mischievious... is he a handful to u?

I got Leng Chai from a breeder... he has one other bro & one other sister.. I chose him because he really different from his sibling... instead of 2 colors... he is white / black and also tan... and he has this adorable look that said... pick me! pick me! Tongue anyway... he's really naughty...although he's only 8 weeks old... like a little terrorist running around the house... so he's got a new nick name... Leng Chai a.ka. Osama or the little Terrorist! hehehehehe!!!

Sometimes, he really drives me up the wall... but then... when he's sleeping or come to me when I call him.. (yes! he answers to his name: Leng Chai!).. he looked so adorable and my heart just melts!

You know what guys... I sure would love to meet upw ith you all and your little darlings.... and I would love you guys to meet Leng Chai... Blush that little Osama... Tongue

Hi..

Osama huh.. My whisky is indeed what the pics of him describle. He is extremely mischievious and very handful too. But he brought alot of joy and happiness in my life. He is like a real baby too.

Whisky also have that cute and pitful look and that's how he attract my heart at the petshop. Once I saw him, i just knew that I must have him. I bought him in a petshop in SS2. Do you mind I ask how much did you buy from the breeder. I might be thinking of getting a partner for Whisky...Smile

My whisky used to be like that...pee and poo everywhere. When he was first brought back, he did not wanted to be alone and cages. So at nite, I'll accompany him by sleeping at the sofa and he sleeping at the floor beside the sofa. Next morning I woke up, I saw his pee and poo everywhere.....sigh...
But now Whisky only pee and poo inside his cage or he sometimes go outside to do it.. You got teach him like whenever he pee and poo at the wrong place, you just shout at him saying NO. For my whisky, we normally hit his buttock as he is a very stubborn pup. My place is carpeted, so sometimes when he does his business too much, it can be abit smelly...How about trying febreeze. You can wipe the pee or poo up with wet cloth then spray febreeze on it and wipe agin. I do that and my house is not smelly at all..Cool

Greetings...

Classic problem... Dog pee/poo... Furslave must go clean up... LaughLaughLaugh

Hmmm... Scolding him is fine but remember to praise him heaps when he does his pee/poo in the right place. This is a tough time for you as the furslave as you have to make sure to catch him in the act and place him in the right place to pee/poo. TongueTongue

As for smell... Hmmm... After cleaning up the area, best to spray some diluted vinegar (prevent the dog from sniffing out the place and peeing/pooing there again).. Then, spray some air freshner thingy... LaughLaughLaugh

Keke.. When we used the Glade Airfreshner whenever Snoopy pee/poo, she hates the Airfreshner.. Kekeke... Tongue

Hehehe... With some patience, training and persistence, I don't see how a dog can "behave" (in human terms) and live with us in harmony... LaughLaughLaugh

You can scold him, but remember to praise him too when he does somethine right.. TongueTongue That way, you won't feel so bad because he has learnt his lesson, right?

Kekeke.. I think I take after my Mom when it comes to raising dogs, must not pamper too much... LaughLaughLaugh

Re: [Terri Chai] JRT ZONE [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Terri,

It is normal for a pup at his age to pee and poo every where. Housebreaking is not easy but given time and proper training, he will learn not to poo and pee everywhere.

As for my JRTs, they are kept in the cage at night and when we are working. Every morning before going to work, I will released them and lead them to the front compound. I will stand there for few minutes and they will pee and poo there. Everyday I will do the same thing until now it become a routine. It is not much of a problem for me cause I let them stay outside the house in the compound. We don't let them come into our house.

As for your case, since you are keeping the puppy inside your house and if you want him to pee and poo in the toilet, I suggest that at night you keep him in the cage and in the morning, just lead him to the toilet to do his business. Make this a routine and if he do his business there, give him a praise. At his age now, probably he would have pee and poo in the cage even before you release him. During day time, if nobody is around, I suggest you cage him.

BlushDon't be so soft hearted lah. If you softhearted now, once he's grown up become aggresive, then lagi problem. Pirate Be patient and teach him well and he'll be a doll once he's grown up. JRTs are meant to be smart dogs. No stupid dogs, only stubborn dogs.

But like all the JRT sifus have said, once he did it at the right place, praise him lots and lots. You can even give him treats if you want. They are sucker for treats bribery. They tend to learn faster also, I think because of the bribery effect, I guess.Cool

HmmUnimpressed....I thought I was chatting with another JRT owner that day in the new member intro. Dunno whether he has managed to make his way over to JRT Zone or not. Better remind him again.

Looks like we are making good progress on the JRT Zone owners list. Yippee!!

Have fun!!Cool

Re: [junecheah] MIPE 2004 [In reply to] Can't Post

U mean you are going to bring Whisky into MidValley for MIPE 2004? Or are you bringing him to jalan jalan around that area? If you are brining him into MV, you sure you can bring him in if you did not enter him into any competition? I remember last year MIPE, those with dogs can only bring them in if only they were entered into competition. I don't see anyone pulling along/holding onto dogs/pups in MidValley. I think there's a seperate door if you are bringing dogs in. Even if you want to bring your pup to Pet Paradise for grooming or vet purpose, you will need to bring the dog in via 4 or 5th floor car park entrance. Better check it out.
