Unsure Ehh....I think you asked the wrong person regarding the kitty. Tubby lives with dmax. Snoopy lives with aragorn. Tubby saves kitty. Snoopy got saves kitty before meh?!? I think Snoopy and Dao Dao are both same same, can't wait to pounce on the poor old birdies.....Sly

Re: Wrong caretaker of Tubby [In reply to] Can't Post

Ooooops! Sorry Dmax, confused ownership, but still yeay for Tubby!!!

Was in Chinatown area checking on the petshops there. A couple have opened up. One is next to the Mandarin Hotel. Ohmigod! The pets there are in such deplorable condition. The whole place stinks and the dogs are suffering from dandruff and skin sores.

What's more, the dogs which i saw and 1 cat were all sleeping and looked lethargic!

The other shop which I think is a branch of Summer Pet looked better and the animals looked active.

Hi gaudygoddess,

I was busy lately. Just managed to log in here and saw your posting about Tubby

Yes, I owned Tubby. Not sure whether you would consider Tubby saving the kitten or not. But I was worried that they would kill the kitten because when Tubby released the kitten, my other two adult JRTs came charging at the kitten. I had to drag them away and put the leash on them again and dragged them home. When I went back to that playground later, the kitten was not there anymore. I think the kitten has gone to the nearby school. If I didn't dragged Tubby away too, I think eventually he will also bite the kitten if not kill. Because when I dragged him away, he kept barking at the kitten. Maybe he was too excited about its prey. :)

Yes, Coco and Jojo will bark at those cats vigorously when they passed in front of our gate but not Tubby. He will just sit there watching. But can't really tell whether he will attack cats or not. I said this because when they caught the lizard, Coco and Jojo will bite and kill the lizard. But for Tubby, he will eat it up.:)

Re: [dmax] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the reply. I guess Tubby fan club has been mired in all the replies. A funny story about my siblings' JRT mixed. For about 3-4 years, they have been keeping these 2 cats adopted from PAWS (actually 1 of them were mine but I had to leave it behind as my sister did not want me to take her). One of them is Grey Cat and the other is Orange Cat (More of a Tortoise Shell) their names are another story. From day one Grey did not get along with Orange, who proved to be extremely dysfunctional, not sociable, nervous and not only did could not function physically as a cat ie she could not climb walls. We reckon she was abused before by other cats (she is physically weak) or by humans. Grey on the other hand shunned her and slapped at her at times when she got too close and displayed her nervousness. Grey is a dog cat, who loved the company of humans and actively seeked them out. One day they brought this JRT mixed which they did not name Brown Dog (luckily) but Meelo. At first they were very wary of each other but 3 months later, Orange Cat and Meelo play with each other (playing catching and hunting squirrels together) and it seems Orange is now more open and receptive to human touch. Another funny thing is, this playing behaviour is observed ONLY when they think nobody is watching. When the humans are around, Orange especially would hiss at Meelo. Poor thing. Meelo likes to jump a lot and can't sit still.

Still, I'd like to think of Tubby that he was a hero. He he Tubby may have been saving kitty for slapping around. I don't really think they hate cats more than they like to pounce on moving creatures or protecting their territory.

LaughLaugh Your story on Grey, Orange and Meelo is so funny. I'm sure when there are human around, Orange will want to show off how a cat normally behaves towards dogs.

I still don't believe our JRTs can get along with cats. Maybe in front of us, they will behave well. But when we are not around, they may turn crazy wanting to opt for a hunting game instead. :)

Hi ginl,

The list is for fun. At least we know who are the JRT owners. Where do you normally take Biscuit and Bailey for a walk? I think our dogs would love to go for jungle trekking. Any recommendation on whereabout? I mean those easy one. We took Tubby twice to this Bukit Kiara though dogs are not allowed. Of course we didn't feel at ease cause everyone were starring at us as though we were criminals. But Tubby really loved the walk and enjoyed the cold water in the little stream. We go there quite frequently on weekends for a 5km walk but seldom bring our dogs.

Whisky run towards the ball but suddenly made a U-turn and went to bite my bf's finger. Is there any problem with him liking to bite finger and leg. Sometimes, he get to excited and he started to bite us at the finger or leg. We tried to beat him and shout him so that he would realise that he is not supposed to that..but he still doesn't gets it. My bf is saying like he got this mad dog thing.. I'm worried as I bought of alot raw hides for him but he still prefer biting us. Any suggestion on preventing him to bite us..Crazy

Wow. Whisky is fierce. I suppose he is still a puppy and got too excited playing the game. I think you need to scold him at once with an angry tone of "NO BITE" and stop the game immediately. Play only if he behaves. Otherwise, if he continue to bite, then maybe you can use a little pinch on his lip as a correction. You just need to be consistent with the correction and he will soon learn not to bite as he likes. Hey, can he fetch the ball back? Tubby can fetch the ball back but once I want to take the ball from his mouth he will move away.

Normally when he bites us, we will shout at him No Bite but he still dun want to listen. We tried alot of way like pulling his lip into his teeth and putting some pressure there for him to feel the pain but still now even with putting his paw in his mouth..We tried many ways that we found on the net but all still won't work at him. We did stop the game immediately after biting but he still will want to bite us by either jumping on us or bite our leg.

He is abit possive..we throw the ball for him and he will fetch but never bring back. When you try to snatch, he will show gowling and showing teeth..He won't let go at all... kinda difficult to train him at times..Unimpressed

LaughLaugh Putting his paw into his mouth!! He must be thinking you are playing with him. :)

I should think you just need to be consistent with one correction method. If you try too many methods, he will be confused.

Maybe you can give treats to encourage him to come to you. No need to snatch from him. Wow Whisky growling and showing teeth...really a fierce little fellow. :) Must be fun. Why not show back your teeth to him. Hahaha.

He is a very fierce lil JRT. He is just 3 months old and so fierce...can't imagine when he is older..

We did tried to roll up newspaper to hit him but he end up biting the newspaper back.. We tried to be consistence in one method but maybe for the first time you do it he will stop after a few times he won't already.
We tried giving him treats to come he also won't.
I do hope that it a natural thing for puppy to be biting finger and as he grows he will learn not to bite.Unimpressed

I think he is not scare of you and your bf. Rolling newspaper to beat him...he still bite the newspaper back. I think you hit him too softly. Why not try to show that you are fiercer than him...hit him harder. That's how I would think eventhough he is still a puppy.

Like my 3 fellows. Previously, they always bite and chew the newspaper into pieces when the delivery man threw the newspaper into our compound. Once, I got very angry and gone rampage towards those fellows. Now they will go into hiding when the newspaper man come in the morning. I know they will not attack the newspaper if I'm around. But if I am not around, they still go back to their habit of biting. Until now, I still keep reminding them not to bite the newspaper. Not an easy task.

Re: [junecheah] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Hmm.....looks like a bit of a temper problem with Whisky. The paw in the mouth seems to work with Dao Dao. Now she only nips softly to play. Wao, you guys even resort to pinching the lip. I've never tried that.

I think what Dmax says is quite true. Seems like Whisky is thinking and feeling that he's the boss and to him your paper punishment is too lame. Like Dmax has said, try to wack him a bit harder. Paper is quite soft and flat and stress level on the puppy flesh is quite low and safe even if you wack him a bit harder. Do it at the rear, just above the tail area. That should not create any injury even if you wack him a bit harder.

Try to be conservative on the treats. Don't confuse him with treats and punishment around the sametime. Ignore him when he misbehaves. Only reward him when he behaves.

Biting is a natural thing for puppy but aggression is a problem and may not fade away if left unchecked. So you might want to work on the aggresion portion also. Be patient. Whisky can't learn everything all in a shortwhile. It does takes time. Be patient. Keep us posted.

He is actually afraid of my bf when he shouts at him. He knows that my bf will beat hard if he misbehaves. But that time during the ball playing session, he just U-turn and bite him. My bf also says that he saw whisky face was very fierce when U-turn back to bite him. But for my side, forever biting my hand and finger. It's full of his teeth mark. I'm just worried on his temper. He can be very fierce and temperantal at times. I do hope he will learn not to bite...Unimpressed

Re: [junecheah] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi June!

How is Whisky doing? Tongue Keke... At his age, he's at the teething stage and I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't biting or mouthing people. Crazy Snoopy and I went through a pretty ok teething stage but there were times when she actually broke skin when she bit me.

Anyway, best not to scold the dog too much, you must let him know how painful his bite (accidental or not) it is, by yelling "ow!" and of course teaching him "no bite".

As for this aggressiveness, can't really tell as you must read his body language. Maybe he's playing a little rough and so, whenever he steps out of bounds, just remind him by saying "hait" and revert his attention to doing something else. Tongue

As much as it is cute to play "tug" with your furkid, it is not highly advisable (as a lot of books say) as it will encourage some aggressive/possessive behaviour in the dog. If you want him to release a toy, teach him the "give" command.

When you said that Whisky's face was very fierce, did he bare his teeth at you?

Re: [junecheah] Member of Tubby Fan Club [In reply to] Can't Post

Seems more serious than I initially thought. If Whisky frequently bare his teeth fiercely, I think that you are having aggression problems with your JRT. I'm sure you have read this FAQ - Dealing with the aggressive dog;http://www.terrier.com/...d/faq/aggressive.htm

I would suggest that you stop playing any game with him for a while. Try to observe his behaviour again and see whether he shows any aggression behaviour like during meal time or anytime. Follow those advices given to determine the seriousness of this aggression issue. Try to roll him over and tickle his belly and see what is his reaction. My doggies loves to be tickled.

How about consider sending him to an obedience training class? MKA has classes for puppies from 3 months to 6 months. The trainer may be able to help you to determine how serious is his aggression problem. It's good also to let him socialise with other dogs when he is still young. Let us know his progress.
