Shredding Newspapers, Biting

My Silky Terrier (name's Shay) came to me three days ago and she is only 7 weeks old and she loves to shred the newspapers I've laid down on the floor (elimination area) into pieces. I've told and warned her not to do so. She listens; whenever I'm around but I have to attend lectures two days in a week so I'm pretty much worried that she'll step on her pee and stools all over my room. The disadvantage is that I'm living in a condominium and I chose not to let her out to the hall.

I wouldn't want to go to the extent of caging her because Shay may yelp/whine if I am not around. I don't leash her too. She roams around freely in my room. Also, she cannot stop biting my fingers and toes. I gave her toys, played with her yet she does the same thing. I warned her but she'd only listen to it for a while.

So, how do I got about for these problems? I need a solution before I could officially bring her home and present it to my parents. My late toy poodle was very obedient and does not bite things. But Shay's different. Perhaps it's because she's still a 7 weeks old pup?

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring -- it was peace. (Milan Kundera)
